When Merlin/Colin's face crumples like that, it just breaks my heart. I want so badly for someone (Arthur would be my first choice, of course) to hug him to make some of the hurt go away. I hate that Merlin always seems to have to go through such difficult times by himself.

It's always such a relieve when at least Gaius can hug him, like at the end of 2x9, when he comes into the room and finds Merlin sitting there at the window, all miserable. Gaius gives good hugs.
Looking at these made me tear up, that scene was so heart-rending.It was so cruel that Merlin couldn't even share his grief and be comforted by friends. It was also the only scene where I can remember Gaius giving Uther a look of complete and utter loathing.

Thank goodness for Gaius. After this scene is the one where Gaius finds Merlin sitting sniffling on his bed with the wooden dragon in his hands. At least Merlin could talk about it then although a hug would have been nice.
Oh man, it's not just the magic that needs to be revealed is it? With that reveal comes so much more, all the suffering Merlin goes through, all his losses and he has to hide his magic and his grief and all the difficult (impossible) choices he has to make. It's all so much for one man to carry.
I've watched that episode countless times. And yeah, in so much Merlin has to do and go through he's so alone. At least he's got Gaius who sees what he does, appreciates his efforts and hugs him every once in a while.

I look forward to the day when he can tell secrets like this to Arthur.

I just wish Merlin didn't seem so alone with everything he has to go through. It just makes me sad.
