I really like your approach to this. The size thing is definitely a thing, and I like your subcategories for a two-creature combination.

Another type of monstrous creature I'm thinking of is the swarming monster--so, not one individual (large-ish) being, but creatures that operate in a mob. In real life, this would be things like bees or ants or pirañas--things that overwhelm by force of numbers.
