Happy Birthday Sushi

While waiting for Lisbeth to arrive, Taiki has taken up aura-watching. A lovely, vibrant silver sits off in one corner -- it belongs to a young woman and, presumably, the adoring man she's with. Being a near-hermit himself and keeping company almost exclusively with other men when he does venture out -Lisbeth as an exception-, it's rare for Taiki ( Read more... )

The pickled ginger should go as well but... so good. He'll just have to temper it with real food and take care, otherwise it'll be a night of stomach acid pain. But a sliver every now and again won't hurt anything and it's not often that he actually seeks out superficial pleasures, especially in food.

Taiki is oblivious to her amusement for the most part. Even while sorting out what he can and cannot eat because of the acidic HOLES IN HIS INTESTINES, Taiki still doesn't actually think anything is wrong. "There are a number of things, depending." Rubbing his eye and temple, Taiki starts in on a very abbreviated list, including some yoga poses and stretches designed to hit key muscles and pressure points. There is no doubt in his mind that she could benefit from a relaxation and realignment session, as well. "There are also fields of energy that can be manipulated some -- a bit of a spiritual response to pressure points. But wait for me to recommend those specialists." The last thing Taiki wants is some new age so-called 'guru' ( ... )

The tiniest scowl -barely there- when she calls him out. Certainly this is not the first time he's been confronted over this. Chopsticks are abandoned on the utensil rest and he wipes his fingers and mouth carefully with a napkin. A drink of soup and the expression is gone.

Moving on.

"It is fine. And yours?" Taiki replies pleasantly. Reduced to small talk since he avoids everything else. The miso soup will be the only thing he finishes since it's his favorite. One piece from each of the three varieties is downed -- there's a lot of leftover but he's eaten something, at least. Progress is still progress and he's not as sickly looking as he was a couple of months ago. It's hard to give up that control...

Oh Taiki she says it because she cares. Plus, having Taiki scowl at you is kind of cute, like a little puppy dog growling at you. Not that Lisbeth would ever say that out loud or think it but, you know, it is what it is. She lifts her eyebrows slightly and looks over at him before finishing off one of her rolls and taking another drink of sake. The sake kind of helps open up space in her stomach.

"Delicious, this is very good." She didn't know about this place, so his pick was a good choice. Picking up her water she takes a long drink and sits back in her seat as she watches him for a little while. Still not sure how this whole aura thing works she starts thinking random things at him (like he is telepathic). She starts with, eat another bite.

Another nod -- he's glad she's enjoying it, especially since it's supposed to be her birthday dinner. As Lisbeth keeps drinking the sake, Taiki keeps refilling her shallow dish. Manners.

She sits back and looks at him and he... does the same. A few blinks and a stretch of silence before he gives in with a little frown. "Just say it." He knows she wants or expects something from him and is a little frustrated that she's not coming out with it.

"I wanted to see if you could read my thoughts." THERE she said it! Are you happy now Taiki? She is not sure if her experiment is a success or not, probably not because he didn't respond directly to her mental mind command and so she figures that maybe she's just had a little too much sake. That doesn't actually stop her from taking another drink of sake. He keeps refilling her little glass so she keeps drinking it.

Plus it's just a little bowl, not like it hurts her or anything. Bah she is going to spill out the booth.

"I cannot read specific thoughts. I can make educated guesses based on emotional and mental patterns but I am not telepathic." He explains, the picture of zen once more. "What made you decide to test me now? We have known each other for a long time."

And if Lisbeth is drunk then Taiki will get that second hand. Woo, cheap date.

"I'm not sure," she says easily which is one easy way of telling how much she's had to drink. Usually she tries to control her thought or has a very specific line of thinking but tonight her thinking seems to bounce around from topic to topic. "It's the first time I thought about it, usually I just take what you say as word." That's not changed of course but she's just decided to be a little curious on her own.

She's not drunk yet but she is feeling a warm buzz around her eyes.

"That is dangerous. But flattering. ...I'm glad." He replies, melting back against the booth a bit. Lisbeth's tongue frees up and so does his -- though be it disjointed thoughts and choppy sentences.

"You're not a bad person. I know bad people and you're not bad," eloquent. She watches Taiki and picks up her little cup of sake, tossing it back and setting it back down on the table once again. That's right, if she gets drunk then so does he, well, feels like it is anyway.

"There is a difference between an evil person and a bad person. I am not evil but I am also not good. That leaves bad, I think." A relative flood of words but it's stated in that normal matter of fact way.

Refillin' that sake dish.

She can agree with that assessment of man kind but shakes her head at his final statement about himself. "You're not bad," it is hard for her to understand that there is middle ground, it's not all black and white. There are darker shades of gray and white. Looking over at him she picks up her sake dish again and takes another sip with a slow smile.

He's not naturally an argumentative person -- especially when it comes to things like this. If Lisbeth says he's not bad then he'll just accept it. He doesn't agree but it's nice to hear.

But that smile is suspicious... "What?"

It's a little like when Bobby tells her that she is pretty or that she is, well, whatever he tells her. It's nice to hear but she doesn't really believe it. He doesn't argue with her and so she feels okay that her statement made some sort of impact.

"You're getting a little drunk."

"No--" Wait. He looks down at himself. "Maybe. Or rather, you are getting a little drunk." Taiki wipes his eyes and weaves his fingers together, setting his hands in his lap under the table. "Why? What did I do?" Blinking to get his contacts readjusted since he forgot he was wearing them and rubbed a little too aggressively.

He may be on to something, that she is a little drunk. Maybe, she is slowing down a little bit and has stopped lifting her hand to take a drink in order to get him a little buzzed. A smile at his observation and then she relaxes back against the booth to enjoy her buzz and the feeling of being full on sushi. "What did you do?" Did he do something, did she say he did something? She didn't say he did anything.
