Happy Birthday Sushi

Jun 07, 2011 17:53

While waiting for Lisbeth to arrive, Taiki has taken up aura-watching. A lovely, vibrant silver sits off in one corner -- it belongs to a young woman and, presumably, the adoring man she's with. Being a near-hermit himself and keeping company almost exclusively with other men when he does venture out -Lisbeth as an exception-, it's rare for Taiki ( Read more... )

Lisbeth isn't late, well not so late, just, well she's been tired recently and she fell asleep and it took her a long time to get her lazy ass up and out of bed. She has no idea why she has been so tired, though she tends to go through cycles of lots of sleep and then very little sleep and then lots of sleep all over again. Perhaps this is just the lot of sleep phase. Stepping into the restaurant she runs her fingers through her short, choppy black hair and looks around.

Surprisingly Taiki is hard to spot. He kind of blends in. After a few moments of staring she picks the booth with the hunched over psychic. This has to be one of the firs meals they've had that's not pure greasy spoon. Sitting down next to him she blinks at him, it's hot out side, cool inside, she is going to stick to the booth. "Hello, Taiki."

"I wasn't expecting soul baring right now," she assures him and gives him a brief, slight smile before looking down at her sushi. All this talk of sushi makes this typist think that it would be an excellent idea for dinner. Looking up at the man across from her, she lifts her eyebrows slightly when he says that he is concerned for her. "There's no reason to be, I am fine," it's something new for her. Like Taiki it's not any problem until someone suggests that it is.

"Ja, I will be," that's what she keeps telling herself. Despite being aimless, she'll find an aim and if not she'll go visit him to get her aura realigned and to get herself back on track. "You don't need to worry about me, Taiki."

A little grunt of a hum at the soul baring comment and he finally eats that piece of sushi instead of just playing with it. "If it does not resolve itself in a week." He reminds her, willing to drop the subject.

"Of course I need to worry about you. I do it in Lisbeth's place." Finally a little smile. "Though you have Mr. Goren now so that is good." Hopefully Bobby is someone who will keep her company and make her wear protective gear while she rides death-and-terror-on-two-wheels.

...And if not, then Taiki will have something haunt the cop until he does his job to Taiki's satisfaction.

"Maybe it's my period," yes, lets have this conversation. It's freaking classy is what it is. Her attempt to explain it away is meant to be reassuring not uncomfortable. She's tired that's not something to freak out over, at least not yet. When blood starts seeping from her eyes then we'll have cause to worry because either she is dying or she has become a Bond villain, which would be pretty cool.

"Don't let him hear you call him Mr. Goren, it's either Bobby or Detective Goren." She said that a lot when he was in the hospital, because people would forget or the staffing rotation would change. "Who worries about you, Taiki?" She can!

A blank look. Please excuse the male Japanese hermit. He's not going to know what that means and menstruation certainly won't be the first thing that pops into his mind. "Period of what? Does this happen frequently?" Well if she's having trouble sleeping on a regular basis...

Detective Goren it'll be then. It feels better, more respectful -- he doesn't know Bobby and first-name basis seems like a privilege. There's also a cultural difference at work here. "I can worry enough for all of us." He assures her. "I will be concerned so no one else has to. Besides, my life is boring."

And Lisbeth just stares at him. In retrospect she should have seen his coming. Not only is he male but he is Japanese and a hermit, and not really, well, into females. Not that there is anything wrong with that but they are all signs that point to not having any idea about female menstrual cycles. Finally she smiles and shakes her head, "never mind, it's a female thing." Taiki is adorable.

"I don't think it works like that," that he worries for everyone. "Plus you're always being chased around by evil spirits, I have every right to worry about you."

((OOC: My schedule should open up and even out some now that I'm at my work residence. Family is exhausting. Good grief, I'm so sorry about my slowness lately.))
//

To be fair, he's not into females just as much as he isn't into males. An equal opportunity apathetic. A confused, uncertain look meets her amusement. "The fatigue?" Taiki thinks about this, rolling the chopsticks back and forth a little against his fingers. "Still, I would not want it to continue to disrupt your natural cycle. I hope it resolves soon, though if not please let me know and I could recommend a few things that may help."

"Why not?" The most genuine question ever. Why doesn't it work like that Lisbeth? Clearly it's gone so well thus far. "I am very rarely chased by anything -- which is good since I am not a fast runner. And coming across something truly evil does not happen often, either. My biggest problem is the wayward papercut. There is no reason to worry."

ooc: don't apologize! I have been working 50 hour weeks, most of the time I get home and just face plant into the bed. I am glad that you're relatively settled though! Good to be back in the states?

"If it continues I will let you know," she promises because Lisbeth has come to find that if she doesn't he will continue after her until she does. He is as stubborn as she is. Maybe even more. It's taken her awhile to figure out that it's a good thing and not a bad thing, even if it does rub her the wrong way sometimes. It's not easy to adjust to people who care about you especially when people have not cared for a very long time.

"Because people rarely have good perspectives on themselves." It works for a lot of people, people rarely reflect inward but are quick to spot worry or trouble in others, sometimes anyway. "You have scratches on your arm," she points out because that is more then a paper cut.

((Oof, I understand. And I am glad to be back, thanks!))

A satisfied nod. Victory. And people have cared about her for a long time... but they just haven't been around. Taiki wishes they could have stayed together when they were kids but it just wasn't canon.

"I am different," he assures her. "I can see my colors." Of course at this point it's all theory since he doesn't actually pay attention to his aura.

When Lisbeth mentions his arm, Taiki nods. "Yes." Because that is a sufficient answer. Good job, tinypsychic. He eventually picks up that piece of sushi that he's been preparing for the last fifteen minutes and eats it, chewing slowly.

God damn canon, people don't understand how right they are for one another, especially when they are little. Damn canon. Some of the only good memories that she has when she was little involve him and his mom. Even though she only met his mom a few times she was always sweet and wonderful.

"You can see them but do you pay attention to them?" Lisbeth is highly dubious because if he paid attention to them he probably wouldn't have wound up in the hospital. Which was horrible. To see him there and for him to be in there, hospitals are horrible places. He of course could tell her whatever he wanted to about his seeing abilities and she would probably believe him.

"How is your sushi?" She is nearly finished with what she picked out, sushi is surprisingly filling, it's all the rice.

The tiniest scowl -barely there- when she calls him out. Certainly this is not the first time he's been confronted over this. Chopsticks are abandoned on the utensil rest and he wipes his fingers and mouth carefully with a napkin. A drink of soup and the expression is gone.

Moving on.

"It is fine. And yours?" Taiki replies pleasantly. Reduced to small talk since he avoids everything else. The miso soup will be the only thing he finishes since it's his favorite. One piece from each of the three varieties is downed -- there's a lot of leftover but he's eaten something, at least. Progress is still progress and he's not as sickly looking as he was a couple of months ago. It's hard to give up that control...

Oh Taiki she says it because she cares. Plus, having Taiki scowl at you is kind of cute, like a little puppy dog growling at you. Not that Lisbeth would ever say that out loud or think it but, you know, it is what it is. She lifts her eyebrows slightly and looks over at him before finishing off one of her rolls and taking another drink of sake. The sake kind of helps open up space in her stomach.

"Delicious, this is very good." She didn't know about this place, so his pick was a good choice. Picking up her water she takes a long drink and sits back in her seat as she watches him for a little while. Still not sure how this whole aura thing works she starts thinking random things at him (like he is telepathic). She starts with, eat another bite.

Another nod -- he's glad she's enjoying it, especially since it's supposed to be her birthday dinner. As Lisbeth keeps drinking the sake, Taiki keeps refilling her shallow dish. Manners.

She sits back and looks at him and he... does the same. A few blinks and a stretch of silence before he gives in with a little frown. "Just say it." He knows she wants or expects something from him and is a little frustrated that she's not coming out with it.

"I wanted to see if you could read my thoughts." THERE she said it! Are you happy now Taiki? She is not sure if her experiment is a success or not, probably not because he didn't respond directly to her mental mind command and so she figures that maybe she's just had a little too much sake. That doesn't actually stop her from taking another drink of sake. He keeps refilling her little glass so she keeps drinking it.

Plus it's just a little bowl, not like it hurts her or anything. Bah she is going to spill out the booth.

"I cannot read specific thoughts. I can make educated guesses based on emotional and mental patterns but I am not telepathic." He explains, the picture of zen once more. "What made you decide to test me now? We have known each other for a long time."

And if Lisbeth is drunk then Taiki will get that second hand. Woo, cheap date.

"I'm not sure," she says easily which is one easy way of telling how much she's had to drink. Usually she tries to control her thought or has a very specific line of thinking but tonight her thinking seems to bounce around from topic to topic. "It's the first time I thought about it, usually I just take what you say as word." That's not changed of course but she's just decided to be a little curious on her own.

She's not drunk yet but she is feeling a warm buzz around her eyes.
