I have a dilemma...

I have this broom handlely thing that I was going to make into a hiking stick.  But all the effort, materials and tools (work in a possible run to the ER - sharp tools you know what I mean...) and I'm not sure it's worth it.  I mean compared to just getting a really cool one made by El diablo or from a hiking stick store (yes I found one).  I Read more... )

I have a El Diablo special special made for me. It is very nice.
I will not hike with it for two reasons.
1. It is way to heavy.
2. It is two pretty with the art work to beat the brush with it.

I have a MS. STICK from www.mssticks.com It has a lot of art also,
I like it better than the El Diablo for its art and design as a whole.

These two sticks are wall hangers, not hikers.

I carry two of my sticks hiking, one was a gift, and the other one
I got from an old gent on the road side while caching in the Smokies.

I also have two great sticks that I got at different State Parks.
They are made for hiking and don't cost much.
You can pick the shape, size and length that suits you.

That is what I recommend for hiking.

I have a nice one that I got at Black Rock SP. But I never take it to the woods. I use either my 4 year old beaver stick, or a cheap metal one from Wally-World. That way I will not feel bad if I lose either of them. I took several sticks from the beaver dam, but I have lost all but the one. I have been able to keep it so far.

I have one of those too. But it seems to be more trouble than it's worth. I think I would do better with a wood one. Maybe I'll just figure out a way to use the broom handley one ... for a backup and get a nice one for show.

I'm a bit partial to one that I made with Marietta Moose's help. Just a simple wood stick which is cord wrapped. It's not pretty enough to just leave as a "wall hanger" but it is sturdy enough, and goes along with my preferences (wood over metal).
