Halloween Night

The Scarecrow doesn't have the Joker's knack for rallying a mob. He operates best by himself, anyway. He will gladly observe whatever chaos the Joker manages to stir up, but his real work for the evening is his alone ( Read more... )

The alibi he set into motion a few days before -- just in case -- ended up paying off when he woke, just after noon, to find that while he'd been sleeping Crane had broken the Joker out of Arkham.

The day becomes a rush of research and preparation. Stocking up on antidotes, getting in touch with Lucius and Gordon. Trying to gather information on what either Crane or the Joker might have planned.

There turns out to be distressingly little of it. The Joker put out some kind of call to arms, but he isn't able to discern what he intends to do with the manpower once it's collected. And almost as bad, he can find nothing on Crane ( ... )

All the weaponry is put aside, as it's found. A respectably sized pile. Anyone else would be impressed. The Batman, not so much.

That quipof Crane's earns him his forehead slammed against the ground, and held there, as he taps the side of his cowl. "Gordon," he says. And the in-cowl communications system dials the number...

He winces, and then, is either quiet, or muttering to himself under his breath. Rhymes again, maybe.

"What." Sorry, Batman. Jim has been arguing with the mayor. He sounds a mix of tired and pissed off that can only lead to a coffee mug smashing into a wall.

"I have Crane." There's the sound of him swallowing. Though neither of the people privy to his part of this conversation, at least, can see him wince.

He gives the coordinates. "How soon can your people get here?" How long does he has to stay here, to ensure that the doctor makes it into custody, and these weapons don't end up in any hands but police ones?

"Oh thank god." How soon... Batman can head frantic typing as Jim tries to figure out where the closest unit is. "Less then fifteen minutes, unless they run into something else. They'll know Crane is the priority, though." More typing and a phone is ringing, somewhere. Radio chatter. "The Joker's been spotted. Someone called it in from the party at Wayne Manor."

That choked-off furious sound Jim heard? May have been Batman biting off an actual curse word. Or a dozen.

This calls for some quick revision of his plans. Hell. He calculates how soon he can get back to the Manor from here. "I'll be there in twenty minutes." To get most of the way across the city, off the islands, and out to the Manor...

"There's only one road onto the grounds. Block it off, but don't let him know you're there. I can take care of it from there."

Jim will just assume it's some noise coming from Crane. Isn't that nice of him.

"Right. Road block, but don't attract attention. Should I have them set up a loose perimeter? Far enough from the house not to be seen, in case they try to go off road?"

"As much as you can." Not to disparage Gordon, or the GCPD. But, well... that's a lot of perimeter. Even just the city-ward side. "Anything else?"

There's a lot of information he can't offer Jim. It's frustrating even now. In twenty minutes, it's surely going to be even worse.

It is a lot of perimeter. But one guy with a radio can at least give a last seen location, right.

"There's several units in the Palisades, still. So there are men in the area." Jim got in a very loud argument trying to get those units into the city. Now he can tell them to go try to surround Wayne's home looking for a homicidal clown. "That should be fine."

A nod would be useless here. So he doesn't bother. "I'll let you know when I arrive. Keep me informed."

Click.

...now, Doctor Crane. Back to you. He can't stay here to ensure that you stay put, but hanging you from a lightpost, the weaponry gathered up in your hat (which will also be hung from the lightpost, after a great deal of securing) should do the trick. He hopes.
