Halloween: Trick or Treat

Nov 06, 2009 23:48

The Scarecrow set him free and for that, the Joker is grateful enough to play along with his games. He could just lay low for a couple days and let the law and Batman chase Crane down tonight. Let that nut get himself caught and then make a move. He's been buttered up with presents and provided with a little amusement, though, so he'll help cause a ( Read more... )

McCoy was less of a mess than most people would be in a similar position.

(Said position being: known by the Joker by name, and having repeatedly insulted and humiliated him over the course of a number of months.)

He was anxious, yes. Suddenly painfully aware of the security inadequacies of his home and on his person. And yes, maybe, he was afraid, as much as he'd like to state otherwise. But he was doing his best to be aware of that fear, and not let it run away from him. Not panic. Not be stupid. If Johnny Doe decided to go after him, to pay him back for his treatment or just to have some fun, it would happen whether he was afraid or not. It was all a matter of how much of a fool he made of himself, in the process ( ... )

It seems like the longest wait possible, even though he's busy all the while. The Joker hates that he sent others out to fetch Luke for him, but there's just too much to get done. He's glad when Luke is finally delivered to him and all in one piece. The man is still unconscious and there's just so little time to enjoy this. That's so sad.

He has Luke taken to his 'room' and they're left alone there. He kneels in front of the doctor and goes about the task of duct-taping the doctor's wrists together, tapping his cheeks to rouse him. There's a mask strapped over Luke's face already, feeding him a slow stream of nitrousoxide.
"Wakey wakey, doc."

The space they're in smells of somewhere that's served as a home to vagrants and animals. There are rat chewed boxes of spun sugar in the corner of the storage room and no windows. The fluorescent light over head flickers in no steady pattern.

The light slaps to his cheeks wake him, bring him back to consciousness with not nearly as much of a headache as he would have expected from his last experience with feat toxin, and he registers the hiss of the rebreather, the smell of the room even through the mask and the sweetish smell of the nitrous flowing through it. Then the voice...

He opens his eyes, to that.

Oh, that's not good, he thinks, but can't quite dredge up real concern. He just meets the Joker's eyes, straight on and steady, and doesn't quite manage to keep a stupid smile off his face.

"Mr. Doe."

If nothing else, Eddie is well-connected, even in Arkham. It doesn't take long before he's sending texts to Luke's phone.

Harley, Jenny or whatever she's going by these days? She's not a particularly stupid girl. Overly dependant on particular people, to be sure. Her mother, once. Ivy, at the moment. Joker, she would have liked. To a certain extent, Pickman and her doctor at Arkham.

But dependant doesn't make her stupid. When she wanders off in the park, while Pamela is off doing...god only knows what with the flora of the place, it's because she's bored. Because she wants to do...something. Anything. Not necccesarily something bad, she hasn't done anything like that in so long. But something.

Which is not to say that she wants to go off with these people that would very, very much like her to go off with them. She'd honestly rather not. But it isn't as if has much choice. She could fight, and she does fight ( ... )

The Joker takes a break from filling smaller canisters from the larger container of fear gas he was gifted with. In some cases, he's mixing it with the nitrous in the pressurized containers. He stands from his work and, at this point, his hands and clothing carry the taint of fear gas. All of the thugs know to back away from him as they offer Harley over.

"So...ah...did any of you see under her clothes? Nice isn't it?"
He smiles, being friendly and conversational. Just 'guy talk'. At least until one of them smiles and laughs. Before he gets one word out, the clown shoots him in the forehead and drops him. The other guy starts to argue he didn't do anything.
"Get out. Leave us alone ( ... )

There was probably a time in two odd months since the escape that she woke up, looked at the ceiling and wondered if she should just get the hell out of Gotham. Clearly and obviously, that thought was dismissed as utter nonsense. Because she's here, wherever here is.

And Pam is not. Joker is, but Pam is not. She really, really wants to keep on with being angry at him. But that's harder when Pam isn't here. When she doesn't have a dictionary to hit him with or a pen to stab him with. Or even free hands.

A little easier, considering how he got her here, and yet.

She makes an interesting face that's probably meant to be somewhere between a glare and a look of disgust. It misses on...a few counts and lands somewhere around skeptical. "I make it hard to be friends with me. You locked me in an ambulance."

Oh Harley. That was nearly a year ago.

Pam is lucky she'll ever be anywhere again. The Joker wants her dead. She's on a very special list. He just has a hands-on attitude towards those he really hates. Harley is working her way onto that list, but things will be more interesting if he can win her back...if he can have her help in taking care of that list.

"The only way any of us were going to get away, babycakes, was to split up. I thought you could handle yourself."
He looks mighty disappointed, in fact. He thought she'd do better.
"Now...you've hurt me. Attacked me. I think we're even. Or...we can be. If you want us to."
He runs one gloved hand through her hair softly, looking as gentle as he's able.
"Do you want to, Harley? Do..ah..do you still want to be friends? We're both free now. We could do some great things together."

Harvey's no detective, but he isn't completely unobservant. What happens outside the asylum walls always trickles in, just like choice patients trickle back out. The orderlies are shaken up, nervous, and even though the one he asks is evasive about what exactly is going on, it's obvious it's something big.

Probably more helpful, certainly better-connected, would be his neighbour. He moves over to the window he shares with Eddie, and looks into his cell.

"Eddie?"

Eddie is leaning against the back wall, peering down at his phone, with an expression of deep annoyance. The expression becomes somewhat muted, when he looks over at the window, but only a little. "Yes, Harvey?"

"Dr. Crane gave the Joker fear gas, and the city's going nuts. The Joker has Dr. McCoy." His lip curls, and he returns his attention to the phone.
