I'm fully aware that the world could do much worse than the US as a superpower. Whilst many may ague that America has no right to intervene in countries such as Iraq or Iran, many would also say that just by being the main world superpower this is an inherent responsibility.
Unfortunately, many people seem to be adopting the Waltz school of though on nuclear proliferation (if everyone has the power to nuke the shit out of each other, noone will use it) which worries me greatly.
I agree with the point about trying to do it all, though. If the US really wants to mak the world a more stable, democratic place then they should ensure that the job in hand is carried out properly before they move on to the next target. Then there's the whole argument about the rest of the world having to clean up America's mess, but I won't go into that...
