I'll cross-post my reply to Brisneyland, in case there are others looking for this kind of advice. peterchayward February 13 2008, 02:15:06 UTC
Convenience stores are almost always looking for employees. I'd try the Night Owl in the city, any local Night Owls (which suburb are you in?) and any petrol stations nearby. 7-11s are almost always a waste of time, but your attempt might be the exception.

Do you have a car? I know a handful of jobs which require cars.

I assume you've scoured Jobsearch, Seek, MyCareer, CareerOne and Monster. What's your technique? I've found that if you ask to talk to the manager rather than just handing in a resume, and you can leave a positive impression, you're much more likely to get callbacks ( ... )

Did help. No car, but yeah...

Actually I think I replied to you on Brisneyland too. Deja vu much?

Private tutoring? Babysitting?

What kind of employment options are there on your campus? Internships? Talk to professors about recommendations?

I'm not exactly sure what I could tutor, and it seems that all the babysitting jobs available are after years of experience and blue cards and cars and crap.

I think I'll check out student services tomorrow. Thanks :)

I really don't have any suggestions for you, but I've been broke, unemployed, and Centrelink wouldn't help me too. Just get a job, any job you can get, try not to have standards. I work in a supermarket and I know I can do much better, but I don't care, it's a job, it pays. That's really all I can say, sorry it's not very helpful.

Sell stuff on ebay!! I've been getting rid of the clutter in my bedroom lately, and it's fun hehehe.

Does it take much to start? I don't have any money to even purchase packaging. Pick up only, dawgs!

It depends on how much you put the starting price at, but only a couple of dollars (you don't even pay now, it all accumulates and you pay monthly). And of course you charge for postage and handling, so you don't need to worry about purchasing packaging either!
