Art: Portrait of Jensen Ackles (G)

Mar 02, 2007 10:21

Rating: G
Medium: Graphite on smooth bristol
Note: As usual, I'm not all that happy with the way it turned out. I think the problem is that Jensen Ackles is just too damn gorgeous. This guy I drew here? Whoever he is, he's kind of cute, but he's no Jensen Ackles. I wish so bad that I was better at capturing a likeness. There's an artist's site ( Read more... )

I know what you mean about the website you refer to. I'm getting jealous right now...

Still, your art is amazing, too! I can't even draw realistic shapes or faces; and this one is so... full of emotions. Well done.
(what's your secret for drawing hair? share it with me. *g*).

Me too! *g* I really wonder how she does it. Even if I feel like I've gotten the basics right -- proportions, etc -- there's still not that instantly recognizable quality there. *sigh*

Hair is so much fun to draw! For this guy's hair, I just kind of sketched it in, in what felt like a million little short strokes, in the direction that actual hairs would grow out of his head. Then I went back and picked out highlights with a fine-tipped eraser pen. I use one of these: http://www.dickblick.com/zz215/35/
Then I went back and darkened areas, like at the crown of his head, behind his ear, and at the nape of his neck, and in little random spots all over to get a little contrast and (hopefully) depth. It took forever, but I usually draw hair with my music turned up loud, singing along, and just have fun with it! *g*

I shall definitely need this kind of erasers. I can easily imagine what I could use it for, and drawing hair - or just contrasts - thanks to is to be *fabulous*.
That's really strange. I went to an art shop a few days ago, and I don't remember having seen any of these erasers. It seems that Internet sometimes is the only one taht can provide some interesting art stuff...

...Unless I live in too small a town and that I wouldn't be able to find anything like this ever here. *laughs*

Tahnks a lot for the tip, and the links, it really would help me later to draw better. :D

Yes! That's my problem, exactly. I have one store that's fairly close that I can get good, basic supplies, but all the 'special' stuff I order online (usually from dickblick.com because I find they have good prices.) In fact, I'm saving up my money (or trying to anyway, *g*) for this right now: Faber-Castell Albrecht Dürer Watercolor Pencils *drools*

Holy crap, this is AMAZING. I get what you mean about Jensen's OMG HOTNESS being hard to capture (because, HI), but...wow. You've made him so expressive in this, and *so* Jensen, and the likeness is perfect.

Awesome, awesome job! :)

Thank you so much! Eeeeee, it kind of thrills me to see someone say that the likeness is there, because after hours of working on a drawing, I really can't tell anymore. Then, I watch a few more eps, look at a bunch of new pictures, and think, 'Oh, crap. This doesn't look anything like him!' The real thing is just too perfect. *g*

Thanks so much! Eyes are one of my favorite parts to draw, and Jensen's are so big and beautiful...his eyes and his lips are the main reasons I had to try to draw him! :o)
