It isn't easy, suddenly having a different Jenny around after eight long years. Looking at Sparks reminds Apollo that Quantum isn't here, and he may never see her again; maybe there isn't even a Jenny Quantum in this universe TO see, if they're all clones. When something upsets him, he needs time alone, he avoids other people, avoids talking about it, sorts through it ponderously by himself.

But that isn't going to work. The feelings aren't going to go away. He can't just put it past him like he did the trauma of being sexually assaulted on the field. There isn't even a sun that he can go out and fly around to get his thoughts in order.

So it's time to bite the bullet. For such a large man, Apollo moves quietly, pausing in the doorway with his arms crossed over his chest. "What are you doing down here?"

Her eyes open to look at him from their upside down state. “Contemplating a career change.” It was only partially a joke. She really had been wondering if it’d be better to just do something else. Something less stressful. Farming, or opening that bar she and Howard had been joking about. “Think I’d make a good barkeep?” There was a joking smile playing over her lips, but she wasn’t entirely joking about the concept.

Sitting up she spun the chair around to face him, smile gone a few moments later. “What about you?” She knew why, or at least suspected why. That didn’t mean she wasn’t surprised by his coming here. Her brows furrowed a moment. “How did you find me anyway?”

"I think you'd get fired for drinking all the wares," he says lightly in response, a hint of a smile on his face. It's easier to just smile than admit that he's not sure how to act around her; it's been too long, and his Jenny, while similar in some ways, isn't this Jenny.

Apollo only taps the shell of his right ear. "Heartbeat. Yours is the only one here, and you didn't come to the party. What's all this about, Jenny?"

“I didn’t feel much like partying.” She was still coming to terms with everything. Especially with what she had heard from Apollo inside the meeting. Everything they had worked for had fallen apart after she’d died. Everything she’d feared but hoped they would be able to overcome.

“What are you doing here though, shouldn’t you be at the party?” It surprised her. Midnighter and Apollo seemed so acclimated to this place. It wasn’t what she’d expected, but maybe it should have been.
