Steve is easily awoken by even the smallest noises Bucky made. He's already alert and his voice sounds worried for the other.

"Bucky? Are you alright?" He doesn't know what the other might be having nightmares about. He knows that the memories from the war still exist, but he was sure the other had more darker memories that he had no knowledge of.

Steve quickly slipped out of his bed so he could check up on the other.

Bucky's pulse is racing, a cold sweat breaking out on his skin. It's freezing, he can't seem to stop the trembling in his hand... He's trying to pull himself together when he hears Steve speaking, hears the rustle of sheets as he gets out of bed. Damn it, he hadn't meant to wake him...

At least Steve can't see the fear and anxiety in his eyes.

"Y-yeah, I just-" His voice cracks embarrassingly, he coughs to try and cover it up. "I'm- Shit." It's hard to form a sentence. The images are still there in the back of his mind, scenes of blood and pain. He sees himself wrestling that Nazi guard into a pile of corpses, but the corpses are all the people he murdered, and they stare accusingly with glassy, crow-picked eyes.

A low whine escapes his throat unbidden. He isn't okay.

"Bucky..." He's worried. He can't see the other, but he can hear the anxiety in Bucky's voice. It's rare to hear the other like this. He takes a seat at the edge of Bucky's bed.

"You're not okay Bucky. What happened. You know you can talk to me. We're pals remember? Partners." And he just wants to help him. To get him to calm down and feel better somehow. "Tell me what's wrong."

Bucky sees the edge of the mattress dip, and reaches a hand out, patting the sheets until he finds Steve's wrist, his hand. It helps, gives him a mental picture of where the other man is. Even shaken like this, the Winter Soldier at the back of his mind won't let him rest until he knows where every nearby person is, until he can calculate every possibility. His own skin feels clammy, his hand won't stop shaking. God, this is ridiculous, it was just a nightmare, he knows this, but...

He swallows once. He doesn't want to tell Steve what his nightmares were about, but... Can he really keep lying to him? "Y-yeah, we're partners. I just... It was just a nightmare. That's all."

This is strange. Beyond strange actually. no one has ever asked him to do something like this before, so it's honestly the first time he has ever used his size and tendency to keep silent to his advantage. But since that is exactly what he's been sent here to do, 6 slips in to the room silently without even the normal chime of metal keys to show that he's there. He stays close to the door, pressed up against the wall, and tries to pay attention to the here and now rather than the other things that often prove to be such a distraction.
