Who: Remus and Suki When: Thursday Morning Where: Rec Room Summary: Suki needs her best friend after everything that has happened. Rating: PG Warnings: sad times and brosis moments
It was like that that Remus found her, curled up and pressed tight into a corner of the couch, looking for all the world like a little girl who needed help.
Something dark and guilty spiked up inside him-- he had broken them up, after all, walked in and stopped them. Even though seeing them hadn't been intentional...
Remus knew, somewhere inside himself, what was wrong with Suki. A frown settled itself firmly on his lips as he walked over quietly, hovering in front of her like he didn't quite know what to do. After a moment's hesitation he sunk onto the couch next to Suki, murmuring her name quietly.
She heard him there, sitting beside her, but she didn't move since she didn't find a reason to. What could she say right now? It wasn't like it was hard to tell how she felt right now. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn't hide her feelings. She wanted to, so people didn't worry about her, but that didn't seem to matter.
After a moment, her legs finally dropped and her eyes were glued to the ground. She didn't want to look at Remus, she couldn't. Her eyes shut tightly as her mouth open to speak, but no words came out. Instead, tears began to roll down her cheeks, and she just let them, not even trying to hide them or act like they weren't there.
He knew, Remus thought, why she was crying. He knew why she was so upset, but it didn't stop those alarm bells of oh Merlin she's crying what do I do how do I help that went off inside him. Remus stared, biting at his lip, feeling like a large lump of useless who happened to be sitting next to her on the couch.
Hugs always helped. They helped Sirius when he was upset, but Sirius was a very physical person. Remus didn't initiate the contact often, only tolerated it. James, too, required a certain amount of physical contact. Peter was never really upset enough to warrant hugs. Suki... Suki was one of his best friends, and she was crying next to him on a couch.
Remus bit his lip almost hard enough to break skin, and tentatively pulled her against his side with one arm, light on her shoulders.
The physical contact surprised Suki. Her eyes were wide, but still not looking at Remus. How could he be hugging her right now? She thought that he would... no, no he wouldn't be mad at her, would he? They were friends after all. He understood her more than anyone else in this place. Remus was like her brother-- no, was her brother here.
Instinct took over. Suki finally turned toward her friend and buried her face into his shoulder. She shifted her body weight to hold onto him, like a child. It felt like if she let go of him, she'd drown, so she clung to him.
There were no tears now, just the overwhelming sensation of heart break.
"I..." She blinked, holding back the tears. The words were so hard to speak, but part of her wanted to say something to Remus so he could comfort her and tell here everything was alright.
"I fell in love with him Remus..." The words came out in a whisper, almost as if they were painful to say. It made her whole body ache causing to shiver in his arms.
