Tracking chakra signatures wasn't one of Naruto's strong points to begin with, especially since he was currently looking for someone he usually tried to avoid, so this was turning out to be more of a pain than he currently had the patience for ( ... )

Madara had sharply silenced his cries the moment he heard someone at the door. His head snapped in that direction so quickly he strained his neck, its muscles already so swollen and bruised and aching. He sucked in a breath, hearing his name spoken... by the hero, of all people. By Naruto. That fool. Why would he have come here, risking Itachi's wrath?

Certainly not for a rescue. Certainly not.

Chains rattled in the darkness. "Do it quickly," Madara hissed. No, pleaded. "I realize... you owe me no favors, I know that. But he's left you very little... to toy with. So end it. If you want to claim this victory at all... end it before he returns!"

Madara's voice was a welcome pinpointer. Naruto whirled around and spotted the man suspended in such a pathetic position. His eyes growing more accustomed, Naruto saw the pool of blood underneath Madara's thin body, and curled his nose slightly in distaste. Not that torture was anything new or revolutionary, not in the shinobi world. That didn't mean he liked it, whomever was suffering ( ... )

Madara didn't say anything for a moment. He shouldn't have been surprised, really. He knew Naruto's personality. Studied it carefully, considered how to use it to his advantage. But this was a week when all of the subjects were forced to act on their hidden desires, whether they meant to or not. So in the end, was this Naruto's truest behavior? When discovering the man he hated most, the man who would destroy his home and his world, chained and helpless and beaten in a dark room... did Naruto truly wish only to rescue him? For no reason at all?

Madara laughed, a weak sound now, half-choked as his head dropped forward. "Idiot," he muttered. "You idiot boy."

But then he lifted his chin to nod over his dislodged shoulder. "Unbind my neck first. If you start with the arms, the chain will whip back and snap my neck. That's... the trick. Weight distribution. I doubt there's anything more than that. He... He was so confident no one would come for me."
