What were these people looking for? Most of the ones brought here were younger than he was, many were Syaoran’s age (two out of the few he had approached (sort of) were wallowing; he’d actually tried to knock some sense into them - when had he turned into a nursemaid, for god’s sake) some were even younger; some had powers, some had none; there was no connection if you looked for one between all of them. And the latest stunt they'd pulled seemed spiteful at the most; a kid's play, when compared with the previous "tests".
There was no sense in it. But before he could have a chance to get properly annoyed about it, there was a knock at his door - what, the mage? And he was knocking?
"Come in," he called, steeling himself for even more annoyance.

Fai stubbornly opened the door, plastering a cheery smile on his face. He shouldn't shouldn't shouldn't, but he was backsliding after everything Kurogane had done for him and he didn't want him to know.
He would though, he always did.
"Hey, Kuro-pon!" Fai chirped, waving the fresh laundry around. He had had the foresight to stash these in the closet when the sprinklers has happened.

He watched as Fai crossed splashing through the room, and noticed that his hair was still quite damp, hanging over his eyes and shoulder. Kurogane hated the thought, but he had to admit that the mage looked like a pitiful, drowned cat (damn those nicknames; they made him remember Outo, and how “their kids” were gone now, and what they’d left behind back home. He took comfort in the fact that the first guy who’d gone and then come back hadn’t lost any of his own time in the process; then he put that train of thought out of his mind).
“Put them down in the dresser,” he nodded towards the sheets Fai carried. “The armour kid made me that sword a while ago," he pointed out the sword set by his bed, "I should repay him somehow.” Had the Witch pounded that into his head, or would he have thought of it anyway?

That one thought sent a million others crashing through his mind, and he leaned back, unaware of how closely he had leaned to examine the weapon, and his sudden proximity to a very appetizing Kurogane-

Fai drew a deep, shuddering breath. He really couldn't last any longer. "Kuro-pon..." he said weakly, one part hating himself while the other screamed at him to just attack and get it over with.
