Itachi had to admit, there was something thrilling about rejoining with an old acquaintance. A comrade who knew nothing about mistrusting the Uchiha but genuinely resting his life upon him. That was how it used to be with the ANBU, Itachi was the hokai and the rest were his to command and to protect.

Despite the short lived run as an ANBU captain, he had never failed his team. He was genuinely worthy of the position he had been given. The third had never been wrong.

A few moments later, Itachi was heading into the biodome, that strange nervousness at the pit of his stomach he hadn't felt in years. Just like when he was thirteen, he couldn't help but feel that strange shyness. Even if he was older, hadn't seen him in a while, or had even been the captain of the ANBU. It was all just so...

"Kakashi-san."

He called out calmly and coolly, as he came to a halt before his old sempai, his eyes dancing along that ANBU mask. How long it had been...

Kakashi nodded in recognition, feeling more at ease now that his companion had arrived.

It wasn't the Itachi he remembered, but it was still Itachi. He wondered how much the young man had changed over ten years. If he used himself as any indication to measure by, it could be a substantial amount.

"Good to see you."

"Curious."

The Uchiha began as he took a few more steps towards the ANBU, his hands not in his sleeves, his head slightly tilted forward. He knew his sempai well. If Kakashi was allowing this proximity and the verbal communication, he had the green light. He was remembered. It was almost heartwarming to say the least.

"I do not sense you being alarmed by my presence."

Gods, how it felt so different. To be seen through other eyes then those of hatred and fear by an old comrade. It was enough to make that stern mask fall from Itachi's face and make him look worried. Older than he was...fatigued.

Kakashi quirked an eyebrow at his teammates words.

"Should I be?"

Now he was very curious as to what the future held in store for Itachi. The future that had yet to happen for him.

This place was just too strange.

"You look tired."
