Komui Lee || [video]

[Komui is at a workbench in Engineering, looking very pleased and more than a little buzzed. He's got a hammer in his hand, with which he gestures as he addresses the camera]

For those who haven't had the pleasure, I'm Komui Lee, now your head of Engineering. Some of you might be thinking 'Komui? That's the handsome  devil who builds robots. What's ( Read more... )

I don't know how sanitary that jacuzzi of coffee is.

[She sets a new mug of coffee on his desk that did NOT come from that source.]

[Komui takes a sip from her cup. His face falls and he sets it back down]

It's not that this isn't delicious, Inara, it's lovely. It's that the coffee down there is brewed from Blue Mountain beans and it tastes just like how Lenalee makes it.

[In fact, he's going to sit down there and scoop himself a fresh cup.]

There's no cover on it and it's in the engineering lab.

[He hunches near his coffee jacuzzi protectively.]

I'll find a cover! It doesn't matter if it's in the lab, so are all the cups I drink from. Don't drain it!

Well, uh, I actually don't have any experience, but I like to work with my hands, and I'd like to help out, if there's any room for me...

[He finally notices the coffee.]

That's, um... wow, really impressive.

There's more than enough room for you here. What sort of manual work have you done before?

Isn't it? Every drop is top quality. [He sounds so happy at that]

Well, I was in the military for almost five years, but I dunno if that counts. I had some construction jobs before that, when I was in high school. Built a lotta stuff for my brother for fun, too.

[He shrugs.]

The military time counts. We can't be a team if we don't have people who know how to work with others under pressure.

You sound like just the sort of practical-minded man we need here.

Is that... full of coffee?

[So. Unsanitary. URG.]

Yes! It's Blue Mountain coffee, just the way Lenalee makes it.

You're not going to drink all of that coffee, are you?

[Because this Alma knows quite well how you get, and he doesn't want to have to put down any crazy creations cobbled together while Komui's out of his caffeinated mind.]

Alma! You're an adorable adult again!

Of course I'm not going to drink all of that right now. I've got to make it last a week with friends.

Would you like some? It's just like how Lenalee makes it.

[Alma puffs up a little. Hell yeah, he is very adorable... but he makes a less-than-adorable face at the offer.]

No, thanks. That stuff's too bitter for me.

I know how all of it works.

[There's something...off about this stranger. Ah well, probably best chalked up to the experiment.]

Everything makes so much sense now! You don't have to tell me! I can do all of it! It's so easy! How couldn't I have seen it before...

[Her attention turns a little more pointedly to Komui]

What? What? I don't have all day, you know! Chop chop!

Do you know how to get these collars off?

They don't come off.

They were never designed to.

You could decapitate yourself if you were desperate enough, but that really would be pretty pointless. There isn't a single entity in this space station with enough resilience to survive prying it off.
