I don't think they're thinking it'll fail. Maybe it's more like... just in case it does, they want to be sure they've said everything they need to say to the people they love.

[Roxas whimpers; he's on-edge and with the return of Sora, of the pulsing warmth in his chest, he's half-terrified that it's all going to end right here, right now. That they'll fail and he'll see Axel fade again, consumed by fire for good.

He kisses Axel again before saying anything, clinging tightly to his shirt] I'm scared. I don't want to be.
