Whatever it is (though it really does sound like the ocean), it's like a wall speeding toward them, and all Shika knows for sure is that he doesn't want to be anywhere near it. He does, to his credit, recover remarkably quickly, dashing forward so that he can arrange Mindy on his back as best he can and sprint back toward town.]
