So, in truth, the really important question here is:
Why IS a raven like a writing desk?
Curious minds want to know.

[If there was any worry in Janes mind at all about not being able to recognize her friends as they came in, it was definitely swept away now.
Because here comes a girl and a boy, arms linked, with the girl swishing a martini in one hand and chatting incessantly.

Yup.]

[Okay, Crocker. You can do this.

First, put the armloads of flour and baker's chocolate down. Yes, you can put them on the shelf so they're safe. Are your arms empty? Good.

Okay, now stand up. No, do not pick up the baking supplies again. What kind of friend are you?! Now go over there. Keep that smile on!! You don't want them to think you're embarrassed by their presence or anything.

Finally, initiate GROUP HUGGING. No don't spill Roxy's martini you passive-aggressive bitch. This is just a hug.

God you are so shit at this]

[Dirk Strider: initiate group hug.
You, being the tall one, easily bring both ladies into a tight hug. You still manage to maintain your Aura of Rad Coolness whilst simultaneously expressing how pleased you are to see both of them at last. Still, you are spazzing inside a great deal more than you're letting on. Whee. ]

Hey, ladies.

It was like a beautiful cornucopia of alpha love.]

You're even cuter IRL Janey!

There, see? That's exactly the kind of answer you'd give. Which is also how I know it's you. So you're right. That's one way a raven's like a writing desk.

If you're that desperate for cake, you could make your own batter instead of relying on that corporate swill, you know. Hell, I think you'd make way better cake mix than the old batterwitch.

Was this a test then? I'm glad I passed, I don't do well under pressure! Or maybe I do? Hoo hoo. :B

Golly, I'm flattered that you think so!
But it wouldn't do for me to get ahead of myself.
I've got a few years to go before it's my job to make the mixes!

oh, i think i know this one.

That's one answer, yes.

just one?
i didn't know there were other answers to it.
it's a pretty specific riddle.

The original riddle had no answer, the idea being that it was nonsense. The game is that everyone has their own answer.

I've always been fond of "neither begins with a B," since it's equally nonsense.

i was expecting lewis carroll to make sense.

Lewis Carrol does make sense. But not from the angles most people are used to.

Poe wrote on both. Also, both contain quills and feathers and some kind of black pigment.

Why is that important?

The answers tell me about the people answering in a more entertaining way then shouting "where the fuck am I, what the fuck is this" like some kind of idiot.
For instance, you gave two very by the book answers instead of bothering to come up with your own interpretation, starting with the literary reference. Which someone else in this thread already mentioned. What does that say about you?

That I've heard the riddle before and that I tend to go by the books. Both of those things are true.
