You here, Jim? [Yes, he has priorities and he still isn’t sure about all the weird things around here, but Jim was just right there. Him being taken when the Original Human Torch was right will never make sense.] I know nothing’s for certain with things like this, but usually when I wake up in weird places at least someone I recognize is around.

I've only been back a few weeks. The Vision never mentioned you weren't dead. But then again, I wasn't paying him as much mind as much as I should have been.

Fuck, Tom... I'm sorry about- That you had to come back like that. The thought of letting you die killed me inside.
You're my best pal. You always were.

[It may have been Bucky's fault, but he wasn't to blame. The Mad Thinker had killed him. Still, he didn't know whether to hug Bucky again or slug him for not thinking to save himself.
He lets his arms decide for him and reaches out to draw his friend back into a hug.]
You don't know how wrong things were after you and Cap were gone.

He folds himself into that hug, sagging a little but holding on tightly. This is too much to handle on no sleep.] As bad as things woulda been without you around.

What happened? You look like you got stuck going ten rounds listening to Namor monologue at you.

Yeah, he's not moving just yet. This is a little questionable for two guys but he's exhausted and he missed Toro and he can't quite think straight.] I've slept maybe four hours since last Sunday. Bitch computer kept us awake. Joke's on her! I'm a fuckin' insomniac.

[Sorry, Buck. He should be helping you, not feeling sorry for himself like he's been since he got back. He tries to drag him over to the bed that's at one side of the room.]
Come on, you idiot. I've got a bed and even if you can't sleep you can at least lay down. You'll go crazy staying up like this--or crazier. I always knew you were half there already.

[He goes along with him, sitting on the edge of the bed and slinging an arm over his shoulders.]
Ain't crazy, fuck you. Just have nightmares s'all. [Oh. Look. He's talking about things he doesn't usually talk about. Damn sleep deprivation.] Nope, not sleeping, we've got to catch up. Fuck, you're here, this place is a hellhole like you wouldn't believe, Hot Pants. I need a drink.

[The banter, the teasing, it's familiar. But he's worried.]
We've all got our share of bad dreams, Buck. I don't have anything that will take the edge off in here. [Sorry, he just got here so no hidden booze in his room.] You know where to get it?
Reply
[He shakes his head, holding up a hand as if to say 'no, no, no, wait'.] My room. Mine and Steve's. 8... something. B. I got vodka. Let's go.

Lead the way, Buck.

[He rises tiredly to his feet and slings an arm around Toro's shoulders, heading out the door with him toward 8B.]

I would be happier with him not dying again, but now no one's there to make him care. Buck, he's not even all there. You say you know what happens in the future, but it's like the Mad Thinker gave him a lobotomy. He's got memories, but he...he doesn't feel like he did. And he's going to melt in a few days if I don't figure out how to help him.

He doesn't die. Things'll work out. Time... Time works weird in this place, Tom. If you go back, it's like you never left. You go back to the exact same second you left, and no one even knows you're gone. Things... Things aren't going on without us back home. It's like we're outside the time stream or somethin' here, I don't know, it's all complicated bullshit...

You'd think I'd get used to everything not making sense. And I thought being a retired hero was hard? Nothing makes sense anymore. If it ever did. Ann would probably tell me I got just what I--[And yeah, he's not going there right now.]
...How far are we from this room?
