I have a new-found respect for all of those who have learned to fight without magic. This is my first time being gold-collared, and it's...disorienting, and also a little terrifying, not having the powers that I normally have. My world always has magic flowing through it, so to suddenly lose all of that makes me realize how dependent we are on it.

I'm not busy now. Do you want to meet somewhere?

Like that. Good.

Pull the string back again and then just release your fingers from the string, all at the same time. Otherwise you might catch the arrow you'll be shooting and throw it off course.

[She nods, and then takes aim at the target. She lets go properly, but her arrow ends up flying half of the way there before hitting the ground.]

That was a good first try. [She pats Namine's shoulder before going to retrieve the arrow. They're using the normal ones she has in her quiver so she's trying to recycle as much as possible. She heads back over to Nami once she's got the arrow and set it on the ground] Okay, let's aim for the biggest target right in the middle this time. To shoot you're going to want to take the right stance, which is like this. [She moves Nami so she's perpendicular to the center target] Now separate your feet just a little bit.

[She shifts to separate her feet, smiling faintly.]

I guess I should always wear pants when I do this then, right?

That might be a good idea, yeah. Then again, you won't have time to change if something suddenly comes up.

Alright. Now hold the bow like I showed you. [She gets the arrow up off the ground, ready to give it to Namine]

I'll just start wearing pants every day.

[And yes, she seems a little pleased about this idea. At Kate's bidding, though, she shifts into a good position, raising up her arms.]

If that's what you want.

Good. Now tilt your elbow just a liiiiittle bit more. [She tilts the other girl's elbow just a tiny bit more before positioning the arrow] And hold it with your fingers like this. [Positioning her fingers correctly] Keep steady, aim for the center target and fire.

[Naminé let Kate guide her elbow before nodding.]

Okay.

[And then she's taking a long moment to aim, her brow furrowed in concentration. She stills and then--

Fwock! The arrow hits the target. Its path was more left than dead center, but it sticks, and Naminé lowers her bow as if to see this triumph better.]

I did it?

[She watches the arrow fly, smiling when it hits the target and doesn't fall off. Sure, it was off to the left but this is a good start]

You did it. Congratulations, you hit your first target.

[She smiles widely before moving into position again.]

What's next?

[She goes over to the target and pulls the arrow out, heading back over to the other girl. Instead of handing the arrow back she sets it on the ground and kneels. If Nami watches, she'll see Kate pulling all the other arrows out of her quiver] Now we're gonna try getting an arrow out of the quiver, setting it up and then shooting. [Taking this in steps. Steps are important in learning]

[She tilts her head curiously, recalling on their trip to Wonderland just how quickly Kate was able to do all of that when she fought the monsters. It was mere seconds, really.]

I'm just wondering, Kate...have you ever run out of arrows before...?

[It just takes practice]

It hasn't happened to me yet, though I'm sure it might at some point. Why do you ask?

I was wondering what you would do if it ever happened.

[She wants to be...very prepared, if she's going to do this.]

Well, normally I'd have a sword too but I guess I don't here. So without that, I'd fight off whatever it was hand to hand. There'll be times when you can't rely on just your weapon.
