i feel very shaken

so my apartment caught on fire today, a grease fire.  the whole thing was weird.  but basically the grease was taking a really long time to heat up so i started doing other things to fill the time.  then out of the corner of my eyes i saw orange flashes against my cream walls and thought "i know that's not a fire"  it was.  it was really big.  at ( Read more... )

I'm glad to hear you didn't crispify yourself even though fire and flood still sucks.

Don't feel bad--it's gotta be the right kinda fire extinguisher for a grease fire--there's two different types of extinguishers IIRC from middle school science class. I hope there's not a next time, but I thought any powder would do--like flour or whatever. I'ma look this up since I love fried food.

well, i kept my flour in the cabinet directly above the stove. i also kept all my oil in that cabinet too, so lesson learned...

oh ok, i thought all fire extinguishers were made of some kinda aluminum compound, i didn't know there were different versions so i guess it's good i didn't try.

I thought you were supposed to use salt for grease fires?

And I thought the fire extinguisher distinction was for electrical fires?

Damn, I need to go back to 6th grade fire safety class. :(

It's still stop, drop and roll, right?

It is still stop drop and roll, LOL.
But according to that there's THREE types of extinguishers and combo extinguishers. So you really want to study the ones where you work/live/play before you need them.

I wish I was there to give you a hug!

And obviously, I echo the sentiments about being glad you're ok and there was minimal damage.
