Curiosity: is Galeano referencing any particular aspect of life, or just in general? :)

It's actually a quote about a (very) short story he wrote, called "Celebración de la Fantasía." It's only about two paragraphs long, but I lovelovelove it... you should check it out! :)

So the answer to your question is yes. He references a particular aspect in that it's about an even that takes place in the story, but in general because it's applicable to life as a whole. At least, I feel that it is.
