Going to Loncon3?

You might want to read Why I have resigned from the Committee of Loncon3.

Make sure to read the actual letter of resignation at the end. To anyone who understands written English and knows Jonathan Ross's track record, it's clear that, in choosing him to host the Hugo Awards, the Chairs willfully ignored their own charter.

I'm not particularly OK with this for multiple reasons.

Ross - not only is he a cheap comic who gets laughs by, basically, being a bit of a bully, he's neither famous enough nor relevant enough to be interesting and he's not, IMO, a terribly good presenter. It's a poor choice.

I am shocked. Apparently Ross is already tweeting sarcastically about the people who disapprove. He's doing it for free, so why should anyone have a problem with the Big Man choosing to help out this little affair?

There are so many ways he is the wrong choice, I can't even begin to list them.

and accused a woman who tweeted that she wouldnt be attending because of him of "slander" and "false 'facts'".

and he told another woman (i think but am not sure) who expressed disappointment in his appointment that he'd buy her(?) ticket and give it to someone 'less stupid'.

he's ... really not making himself _or_ Loncon3 look good.

(edited for clarity.)

apparently the 'slander' accusation referred to a deleted tweet (doesnt explain his other tweets though)

to be fair, once he realised the scale of the shitstorm etc, he did start saying he'd withdraw if the organisers wanted him to. this doesnt excuse anything, and i still wouldnt watch him in anything, but it could have been much worse.

(although his admirers do seem to be making life difficult for people - i saw @tinytempest getting yelled at for refusing to engage with one, and @seananmcguire getting criticism for 'making personal attacks' when she did no such thing)

might be worth updating this post that he has 'resigned his post as Hugos MoC'?
