For several reasons, for a SyFy (Asylum-style) movie, it was surprisingly lacking in moments that made me want to gouge my eyes out.
I really don't get the robot head thing. Is there some back story I am missing, or was it basically a throwaway reference?

High praise, indeed! :D

I vaguely recall soomit about a monolithic face on Mars... *googles* Oh yeah, that'd be the one. I don't know about the Moon, but I took the robot head to be a ref to that sort of thing, really. Dunno.

I was a little more detailed in my LJ (or I will be) but I have seen far too many Asylum movies, so I was expecting the worst. So I was surprised. I can't speak to Misha as an actor (this is my first thing with him, and he didn't have much to work with so they should give him a decent role someday :P) but I did like much of the 2D supporting cast. So, that's good.
It left like a Peertwee Who cross-pollinated with a disaster flick. Or, something like Relic Hunter. Or The Librarian.

Could be.
I recall the Face on Mars *very* well. I assumed it was a mix of cut scenes and a set-up to a sequel.

He also, apparently, only had a matter of days to prepare for it, being told he'd got it just as he was coming straight off SPN s4. He freely admits he didn't really do much character building, as there simply wasn't the luxury of time. But all the better for us SPN fans, as Jacob comes across as rather like human!Castiel-whose-taken-a-lot-Dean's-personality-onboard. And in Misha's clothes. :D

I mentioned a vague Who-ishness in this post and you said dem's fighting wordz. Heh...
