ETA Jan 29, 2016: Reupload pictures

I decided to cook a couple of other versions of okonomiyaki and then had half of each kind for supper tonight. The leftover thawed cooked shrimp were an appetizer with a bit of seafood sauce and the whole thing was washed down with a cold mug of beer with a squeeze of lime. No salt in the beer, though I usually ( Read more... )

Great uses of surimi, Maria. I'll keep it in mind for a quick lunch or dinner!

I've added it to miso soup and it was very good as well as the sandwich I haven't posted a picture of yet. Not that you need more ideas, Eva, as you seem to have a pretty fertile cooking imagination already. :)

I love your new okonomiyaki versions! The avocado as a topping is worth remembering as well as shrimps. I am preparing a post for next week about something close to okonomiyaki that I prepared on Saturday (also with shrimp!). All I can say now is that it was an extraordinary discovery! Thank you. I had a beautiful ripe avocado and went a little crazy with it, pattern wise though next time I'll plan my pinwheel better. :)

There was another pattern I wanted to do with the mayo, a kind of spiderweb design similar to the one on my chocolate cheesecake. I think I have to take a break from the okonmiyaki for a while there. Too much mayo/Miracle Whip and I still have the other halves of the 2 versions for today. With a big salad.

There are a lot of other versions I've seen on line but I'm only one person and I think eating okonomiyaki 3 times in the space of a week is more than enough for a while. Thank you for the compliment though. :)

This post really makes me want to try okonomiyaki! Your versions look really delicious! I've always got my head in a cookbook, so it really impresses me that I never stop learning when I read other blogs. Thanks for the inspiration Maria. (Barb @ Profiteroles & Ponytails)

And did you know you can put the pancake on yakisoba noodles and/or a sunny side up egg too?

PS: I think you can double the amount of cabbage to 1 1/2 cups and make 2 pancakes based on rereading some blogs.
