A quick check of Amazon.ca showed that it wasn't particularly cheaper from there so you got a good deal I think. Looking forward to hearing about the madeleine attempts! Want pics too!

:( No camera as it's not in my budget but I am posting the recipe for the first batch of matcha madeleines I just made. I had to taste one of the ones made in muffin tins because it stuck to the side and I had to pry it out so it wasn't perfect. (Well, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.)

PS: Amazon.ca doesn't sell any food items so matcha powder is only available from Amazon.com and THEY don't SHIP food items to Canada. The message I get on the item page is:

In Stock.
We are not able to ship this item to your default shipping address.

OMG so expensive! I thought my Maeda-en brand $6 was expensive for tiny bit of Matcha... now that price is crazy! But I'm glad to hear you bought matcha powder. :-)

"OMG so expensive!"

I expected it to be pricey but it was still surprising. I'm guessing they double (or possibly triple) the price per unit that THEY pay when they buy it by the case from their supplier.
