Holiday Cookies ... Romanian Kolache/Hungarian Papucs and Hamantaschen

I vaguely remember my mom serving these walnut filled cookies, called "kolache", for special occasions ... but I don't think she had made them in the last 20 years of her life. As a result, I have no idea what recipe she used. I was going to use the same dough I use to make rugelach (butter/cream cheese based) for the kolache, until I remembered

Thank you. The dough was really easy to put together and both the cookies were delicious. A bit of orange zest in the dough gave it a very subtle undertaste.

It seems as easy as any of the ones I made last week. I like a straight forward dough.
