My credit card offers gift cards as rewards. We always turn in our points for gift cards. As I type I have two $50 gift cards just waiting to be used for a birthday or anniversary dinner. Of course I spent a lot of money to get the necessary points. But I'd have spent the money anyway and I wasn't buying things I didn't want or need to get points.
Are you kidding? I wouldn't turn down any of those 3 dishes. Beef stew is a nice hearty dish that I don't make nearly enough. The last time the stew ended up in a pot pie. Did you use pineapple chunks and green peppers in the pork dish?
The curry paprika is also intriguing ... is it a fusion between an Indian and a Hungarian dish? :)
Yummy pork dish. I don't cook Chinese food nearly enough. Indian beef and spinach curry from the freezer, saffron rice and my home made naan followed by Italian meat sauce over fettuccine this week. :)
Since I am an accomplished cook, I am not as tempted to eat out, and when I do, it's generally stuff I don't make at home often: sushi bc you can get more variety at a restaurant, or chicken wings bc I don't deep fry at home, and really don't want to eat deep fried foods too often.
Otherwise eating out happens for an occasion - birthdays, etc... Sometimes it happens bc I don't feel up to cooking or there's a need to treat myself after a rough day, but generally we cook at home. Costco goes a long way to keep us fed in a healthy and affordable fashion.
I don't eat out near as much as I used to. I used to get sushi once a week, and gave lunches out, but I don't live anywhere that supports that anymore. I'd still do sushi once a week if I could!
The taxes and tip are what make it expensive for me... Also, since I'm the only one working these days, it means I'm paying for 2, which is even more expensive!
Dim sum and sushi because of the variety. They have great dry fried wings as an item at the AYCE sushi place. Driving, parking, taxes and tips ... all reasons that discourage me from going out to eat. A few of the same reasons I don't go to see movies in theatres.
Work has become so scarce it's scary. And the bills keep coming. Budgeting isn't just good practice it's a necessity.

I did use fresh pineapple and both red and green peppers in my sweet and sour pork and I served it over sautéed Chinese cabbage instead of rice.
