Good Friday, Easter preparations and a Happy Easter!

Apr 18, 2014 17:30

Even my non-practicing Catholic parents abstained from eating meat (fish is ok) on two days out of the year, Good Friday and the day before Christmas. And they made my brother and myself follow that tradition, in spite of the fact that we sometimes 'cheated' once we got old enough to manage our own meals at home, which they my mom pretty much ( Read more... )

Happy Easter A_ - I love that you say you had to scrounge for toppings, but it looks perfect. Normally that's exactly what I would add myself!

A happy Easter to you and your family as well.

I threw some green onions inside but I always love some avocados for the top. I'll have to net surf for more topping ideas.

I cannot believe! What a coincidence! First of all, since we don't visit anyone and have no guests this year, I have planned okonomiyaki for my tomorrow's brunch (I often have it on Sundays while my husband always has oyakodon, his favourite weekend meal). Apart from that, I have also bought some lamb (which is not something I do regularly for Easter) and will be baking it tomorrow for dinner! Your okonomiyaki looks fantastic and I'm glad you liked the seasoning I cannot live without (I always put it into ramen for example and on chawan mushi... I brought I think ten bags from Japan). It's funny because I have always heard it pronounced and written in Western letters as "shichimi" not "nanami"; in fact, it is composed of 7 spices and in Japanese seven is pronounced either "shichi" or "nana" depending on circumstances, so it totally makes sense, but is new to me in the case of this seasoning!). Happy Easter! Sissi (http://www.withaglass.com... )

It's a strange coincidence, indeed. :) As to the seasoning, I just typed the name I read on the bottle, not realizing its significance.

As to the praline 'photograph' I looked down at the empty plate in my lap and snapped a picture of it for fun.

A happy Easter to you and your family as well.

Your Easter leg of lamb sounds like it's going to be a winner. I hope you have a wonderful and happy Easter.

Zsuzsa here

Oh those family traditions... we were literally starved for 2 days and on the second day we were subjected to the ham cooking and couldn't eat anything but bread until 6 PM.

We had a major pig out on takeout Greek food yesterday. [An acquaintance opened up an establishment nearby]
The rest of the weekend will be sitting around and drinking coffee. We are eating the leftovers tonight. Tomorrow I will have to cook something.

I so resent the white skinned Jesus images that is part of medieval art and permeated Catholic culture. Jesus had to have been a very dark skinned, middle Eastern man. Plus he was a Jew. But I doubt that many Catholics will remember that as they go to the Easter Vigil tonight. They live in a different reality.

Happy Easter my friend!
