F is for Frangipane

I was going to feature fennel for this post, however, I haven't been able to find any acceptable specimens at the grocery store. Coincidentally, Charles of "Five Euro Foods" recently posted a Normandy Pear Pie and mentioned that he had run across a version of this pear pie with a frangipane filling. I decided to steal his idea and use a "cake ( Read more... )

I love the look of your pear and frangipani tart. This looks like the sort of dessert I'd enjoy with an enormous dollop of cream. The splayed pears are very pretty xx http://hotlyspiced.com

Thank you. They could have been splayed more but they were pretty enough. I served another type of fruit pie with cream the last couple of days before so I served this one with ice cream.

I've been watching this silly show on Netflix called Drop Dead Diva and in it one of the characters invented Pake a pie and cake combo! I'm sure their version is not nearly as tasty as your's!

I couldn't think what else to call the 'frangipane filling' other than a cake batter but it has no flour in it ... or milk. It's wonderful warm or hot out of the oven if you can't wait. :)

No, but if you come over, I'll feed you til you burst. I always like an excuse to bake something new. :)

What is the temperature? I'm not heading anywhere that's colder than here. We are 49 at the moment.

I love to cook, but I hate baking. Might have to make an exception for these, though.

That's a shame. It's 20 deg F today but it's warming up to 25 tomorrow and 27 on Saturday. Maybe in the spring, okay? :)

I love to bake because it's such a rare thing for me to do that I look forward to trying new recipes. Cooking is a chore. Today's supper was kale and white bean soup and bacon/leek quiche, both out of my freezer. I put half of the tart in the freezer, ate 2 pieces yesterday and will probably eat 2 today. But it's a healthy dessert, isn't it? After all, it has half a pear on each quarter.

You have been very busy recently! (Not like me... Feeding on soups and noodles...). This tart looks and sounds lovely. Sissi

I've been home a lot ... not working/earning money. Cooking is the LEAST I can do to be productive. :)

Oh, this does look good - the pears look very pretty! I think this might be one of the prettiest things you've ever posted here before! :). Makes me want to try it, that's for sure

Thank you (is very proud) for the lovely compliment. Give it a shot. You may want to cut the pears into quarters instead of halves for easier serving but I liked this presentation as well.
