Spam Loco Moco (corrected: pronounced loh-koh moh-koh) is another dish that comes from Hawaii along with the various stories behind the name. Click on the link to read them for yourself. :)

It's a very filling, fast and cheap meal that is eaten for breakfast, lunch or dinner. I can definitely confirm the filling part. I barely made my way through ( Read more... )

This looks like a great way to enjoy spam. It's an ingredient I've never eaten but I think what you've done with it is wonderful. It looks very yummy xx http://hotlyspiced.com

Thank you for your comment. It's greatly appreciated.

Just a couple of warnings re the Spam:
Some recipes suggest panfrying it in a soy or teriyaki sauce but I think it's quite salty already so I wouldn't bother. Both the spam dishes are heavy and meant for someone with a hearty appetite.

I have never eaten Spam and to be honest, it isn't one of the foods at the top of my list either. I can totally see doing this with a fried ham steak instead, though.

Mine either regarding Spam. I found it too salty. It was more the nostalgia factor. :) You'd probably like the original version better.

I have never heard about this dish. The name is really funny and it looks very tempting! (Especially the egg on top... it always makes me hungry!). Sissi (http://www.withaglass.com)

There are several different versions of this dish served in Hawaii. It reminded me of a donburi but with less work. Thanks for commenting.

I make loco moco with Japanese hamburger steak and it's good. I love the egg on top. :) I need to try with spam when I make spam musubi!

That's what I'm going to do today with the ground beef I bought on Saturday. :) I found the spam too salty with the eel sauce.

Ah, you explain the origins of the name here - must have read your posts out of order. Your spam posts actually make me want to go out and buy some - it's been so long since I had it. Damn, I guess about 20 years, perhaps a bit more. I've only had it once or twice in my life but never had any major issue with it back then.

Yes, there were 3 spam posts, including the teaser one. :) The source of the name Loco Moco varies.
