" --it has opened my mind to the idea that grief comes in a thousand hues, that it's something that lives and breathes and mutates, but it never leaves." -- Laura Lippman

This struck me as a perfect way to describe grief.

I saw a documentary about our national war arboretum last week and was stunned by the planning behind the rose garden of mourning: four huge beds in blocks of colour reflecting what the hosts see as very basic stages of loss and grieving. Reds, for the anger of loss. Purple, for the despair of loss. Pinks for slow gentle acceptance and healing. White and yellow together for surviving happy memories. It's designed to welcome people at all stages of grieving, over and over again as they move forward with their lives.
