I didn't see the first movie. Maybe it will come on TV and I'll see it then. So, unlikely I'll see the sequel...did Joss direct, or only write this one?
Truth be told, I'm not much into superheroes. Maybe because I didn't read the right comics as a kid. I haven't seen Joss's Much Ado About Nothing yet, and I really want to see it. That's my speed and (sadly) my vanity.
Still, I really enjoyed your review. (Probably more than I would the movie.) 😉
Joss wrote and directed both movies. And he is now done with it - he wants to get back to projects that are more personal.
I actually didn't read comics as a kid either, my comic book habit started later. But even then, I was never a Marvel comics person. I always loved Batman and Superman, truth to tell.
And one of my favorite pairings is Nightwing (ie, Dick Grayson, the original Robin to Batman, now all grown up) and Oracle (the original Batgirl, now a computer hacker extraordinaire). I could write pages about why I love them but prior to DC's stupid retconning, but basically he's one of the world's great gymnasts and never sits still, she's paralyzed from the waist down; she's older by 4 years or so; he's emotionally open, she's reserved and suspicious - the list goes on but I love how opposite they are (and how she has more traditionally masculine characteristics in many ways.)
And that was completely out of left field, I do admit.
Agreed on most points, although I'm a much more direct and invested fan. :)
Don't quote me on this but it seems likely that they'll start dealing with Stark's culpability in Civil War. The last episode of Agents of SHIELD touched on it, too, although who even watches that. :) It always bothers me too when action/superhero movies seem to glide right over the human cost once they have their victory at the end.
And that's to say nothing of the destruction. One of the great things about Daredevil (I know, I'm a broken record) is that it's set in the aftermath of the first Avengers movie and deals with ordinary New Yorkers trying to rebuild. Possibly the first MCU installment that actually pays attention to the widespread effects of superbattle devastation.
I was pretty firmly in camp Clint/Natasha before this but the movie completely sold me on their friendship. That was way better than a romance.
I've really loved this season. They introduced brilliant characters that really improved the overall team and they made one character choice in particular that I LOVE! But I won't spoil.
I, for one, am both loving Bruce/Natasha and loving even more the Clint/Natasha friendship. "Auntie Nat" KILLS ME DEAD.
Rhodey should be in all the things. Don Cheadle is perfect.
re: Tony Stark. I'm torn, because on the one hand, everything you said; on the other, what I feel were honestly good intentions, and they are--all infighting aside--friends, and I know if my friend accidentally created a murderbot that leveled a couple cities, I would be angry but I would also want to take their side.
If I ever create a muderbot, I'll know who I can turn to.
The thing with Stark is he believes that he knows better than everybody else and he really doesn't. Arrogance, when taken to the extreme, is just as dangerous as anything else. After all, the road to hell...
I loved Clint & Natasha's friendship. Such a rare and beautiful thing.
Ooh, also: I know you're not very fanny of this fandom, but if you wanted to spread your wings a little, there is a low-word count commitment Natasha Romanoff ficathon going on, and I think if you wrote Natasha fic my heart would grow three sizes... I'm not pressuring you, just letting you know that in my mind you plus Avengers fanfiction equals joy. :D
Ah okay though in some ways I'm not sure I want to see that either. They tried that in Ghostbusters 2 and it sucked. Granted that's just one example...

I was a bit put out about Tony not really have much consquences unless they're saving that for Iron Man 4
I thought Fantastic Four looked promising too and no, I have no desire to see Batman vs Superman either
