A 16 year old in Texas stole two cases of beer (caught on video) and then proceeded to drive his family's truck into a crowd, killing 4, severly injuring others including leaving one with severe brain damage. He had 3 times the legal blood alcohol limit plus valium in his blood and was doing 70 in a 40 mph zone. Hos attitude immediately after the ( Read more... )

So you're not buying the affluenza argument? How narrow-minded of you :) This type of ruling is why Texas is a laughingstock in much of the country -- and these folks last name isn't even Ewing.

In Travis County (Austin) the District Attorney was convicted of drunk driving, disorderly conduct, and assaulting a police officer. She was allowed to keep her job -- but must "earn our trust" -- after a public suit to have her removed from office was tossed by a judge who said she hadn't done anything egregious.

If the defense's case is ot's not his fault since he had crappy parents, then throw the parents in jail.

Proof positive that have enough money you can literally get away with murder in this country.

The whole lot of them should be in jail. The bad parenting smells even from here.

I agree. I would love to see the parents brought up on charges.

So, so far their little darling is a thief, murderer and attempted rapist.

I'm not a good person, but I swear, gimme five minutes with that little asshole and a baseball bat. He'll learn about consequences and I will sleep soundly.

And I would applaud.

I just read that 3 months earlier he was stopped for DUI and got away with that also. Meanwhile this same judge sentenced a black teenager to 10 years in jail after he hit someone who fell and then died.

Tell me how justice is color blind, I dare you.

Ten bucks the black guy had a public defender, and not one who gets paid 1000$/hour to make up diagnoses.

Thatis a sucker bet if I ever heard one.

The book "Ordinary Injustice" is a fascinating (and horrifying) look at how the poor do not get any justice in this country. The book is not a polemic and it does not poitn fu=ingers at a particular group (ie prosecutors, judges, etc.). Instead, it shows how our entire system is broken and at this point designed to throw the poor in jail whhether or not they belong there.

If they were really all that concerned about that poor kid's ultimate wellbeing, they would have thrown him in jail. And left him there so he could learn a few things.

Throw a rich white kid in jail? With those lazy black criminals? You must be joking.
