As always, I find your A/B stories become my instant favorites. (I disagree about one thing only: I do think that Spike and Faith were each - for awhile - perfect fits as Buffy's patrolling companions.)
No mind: the story is terrific: warm, true, and faithful to their story, credible to the mythos of their love.
Like morning coffee with hazelnut, warm brioche and sweet butter....yum.
I am so happy that you liked this, this was way, way longer than anything I'd ever written so it was a little worrisome.
I get what you're saying about Faith and Spike as patrolling partners and yeah, I could see times where Buffy would want that. But I think in the long term, both Spike and Faith don't tend to think about the other person they're patrolling with; teamwork isn't really their style.
"Would you be happier right now if it had been Spike that had been standing at your door?"
“Did the wrong girl come back from the dead?”
Oooh, nice. I really enjoyed this fic. I'm one of those people who *does* think that Buffy and Angel don't really know each other anymore, and it would never be instant happy reunion between them. But I also believe that two people who've grown apart can get to re-learn each other, and maybe find happiness all over again. You did a nice job of showing us that. Kudos.
The send paragraph is the instant happy reunion and, of course, Buffy pretty much scoffs at it. I have read soem fantastic, believable fics where that does happen (redbrickrose), but my normal mode is yours.
That was actually the point of the fic. I've read a lot of people who say they don't know each other anymore, they've grown too far apart so I wanted to explore that. So to hear that that's what you saw and it worked makes me ecstatic.
By the by, you picked out two of my favorite lines. I like it when people aim for the kill.
I love this fic, how it gently, slowly drifts along with these certain moments (the phone call with Giles, the coupling in the cemetary, the woman in the cafe with Angel) standing out in sharp focus. Buffy's questioning of her feelings for Angel--is it still love? Remembrances of love gone? Pity?--really struck me. And the way she welcomes Angel back into her life, and in a sense, welcomes herself back as well, not in a grand, dramatic moment, but in simple ways, is a perfect contrast to their earlier moments.
Thank you! I knew that this fic wwas going to be a lot of moments, both big and small. The choppiness of that sort of concerned me, but tkp assured me that it worked and I'm glad that you thought it did also.
And I don't think they would necessarily have a big, dramatic moment, it could very well be eggs and waffles. On the show, they also seemed like their lives were over the top, but I doubt they saw it that way.
This is incredibly nice to hear. I am always abashed when someone reads something of mine and likes it, when it's something they've basically moved away from.
Oh, this is so good. I love the way it takes the little moments, and builds on them. It struck me that coming to Buffy was the only way Angel could heal, spiritually as well as physically. The deadness in his eyes at the beginning, the way he was almost catatonic, until he was with her long enough to spill out his life in LA to her was chilling. Helping Angel healed Buffy too...she has always been IMO, most open when she was with him. I really liked the almost mundane way they start over again, over breakfast. Brilliantly done.
Thank! I am so happy you liked it. The song title you gave me was so inspirational. I wanted to tear them apart almost to the breaking point and that's when they finally reconnected.
I just read your post in full (I immediately clicked on the story), and realized it was from the song title I had suggested. I'd forgotten about that. Makes the story even more special for me! Thank you!
