Chapter 9

In this chapter the author discussed the use of a rubric system for assessing constructive learning and problem solving with technology. I found this chapter very confusing and not very useful because it was too wordy. I did however like how the rubric system breaks down all the expectations for the outcomes. Amy, I agree with you that multiple choice test knowledge rather than skills. I hate the idea of having to memorize course materials. I think I gain more from hands on, meaningful experience. It is also a better way for instructors to track learning. For this class, Jason is able to view our wiki page and assess our skills rather than our knowledge, I like that method of assessment. You were very honest in your response to reading. I agree, the book was packed with insightful ideas for using technology in the classroom. I can't wait to explore some of the links that were posted in the text. Thanks for allowing me to read your post. All the best.

Amy,

I hate memorization stuff as well. It doesn't really test whether or not you have gained the knowledge. It seems like rubrics would take a bit of time to create, but I agree in that children will benifit from the structure.

I am glad I am not the only person who hates memorizing things for a test. You definitely right with the fact that rubrics is a very time consuming but when it is done it is very beneficial!

Hi Amy,

I really enjoyed reading your comments on chapter 9. I too think it can be a good idea instead of testing a child on right and wrong answers to provide other forms of testing to allow them to think outside the box. That was a good point you brought out.

Great Reflection!
