Yes. That one. The one that made fans' heads explode all over the internet (thanks to
cozthefangirl for the cap):
I must admit that such thoughts have long been a part of my own personal canon, but there's been a lot of official precedent for it too: first we had John Simm saying that Sam's dilemma in the Life on Mars finale was
"destroy the one you love" (quote at around 1:56), and then we had Matthew Graham and Ashley Pharoah on record as saying that Life on Mars was basically
"a love story between two men" (exact quote on
page 2 of the article). So technically, I don't think the graffiti told us anything we didn't already know...it just took what was already there and made it canon. (Kind of like if JK Rowling had had the courage to make Dumbledore gay in the actual Harry Potter books, instead of just talking about it in interviews.)
Question is though, what do you think it meant? Do you think it means that Sam and Gene enjoyed a bit of rough and tumble in the back of the Cortina, or just that they love each other very deeply in the way that close friends do? Or do you think that it means something much darker? As
thisiszircon pointed out, the graffiti doesn't actually say "love", it just shows a heart...a motif which has been used to somewhat dark and disturbing effect in s2 (mainly in the card Alex gets from Molly).
Personally, I'm down with them loving each other as friends, but I think Gene at least would have a huge problem ever admitting as much.
Others?
