CoS reloaded, evolutions, lack thereof, old age.

Started to re-read CoS yesterday evening. I'll report about any additions to the Pensieve when I've finished it.

My first observation (which won't go into the Pensieve, as it is difficult to pin down to certain page numbers): this first observation is about the Dursleys: my impression is: Dudley is granted some development (he somewhat grows up), but Vernon and Petunia remain the way they were in PS up through HBP. The same seems to hold true for a number of other characters too: McGonagall, Flitwick, Sprout, Pomfrey, Binns, Sir Nicholas, Peeves, ... . Part of this may be due to nature (as ghosts proably can't develop their character - though I don't know what would have happened to Sir Nicholas if his colleagues would have accepted him as a hunting partner ...), part of this may be due to Harry's POV (Flitwick, Sprout, Pomfrey: he's nor really intersted in them as persons), but how about the adult Dursleys and McGonagall? Or the adult Weasleys? Are they just too old to change? Is Dumbledore (who does change IMO) just an exception proving ther general rule? If this should be the case: How old do you have to be in the Potterverse to be too old to change?
