Hundreds of lights float over the water in little paper lanterns to celebrate O-bon. Yellow and orange flickers reflect on black glass, stretching out forever. The mirror image creates a seamless illusion of a horizonless expanse. It’s beautiful -- like the stars are stretched out before him instead of just overhead.

They move to the hill and Shuichi sits with him on a big square blue blanket. The blond is respectfully still, giving Taiki plenty of silent space. The psychic celebrates his holiday in quiet, reflective meditation… Until Shuichi’s stomach rumbles. A smile cracks and Taiki passes over the bento.
