For the 30_breathless table - #2 In The Silence Of The Night

Jan 05, 2007 16:13

The room was silent apart from her breathing. Her body was wrapped around him tight and for the first time in a long time her breathing was even as she seemed at peace. He watched her carefully as he always did, sensitive to every movement she made, every sound, every breath. He yawned, his eyes gritty with the lack of sleep but he didn’t mind, just as long as she was okay.

He loves the silence, he loves the feel of the warmth of her body tight against and for those few brief moments he almost feels safe with her here, in the darkness that he calls home.

He ran his hand across her back and her backside and she stirred a little but didn’t wake and for that he was glad. He watched her now because it was when she least expected it and although the feelings she evoked in him were foreign, like everything else he was starting to get used to it and although a part of him was loathe to admit it, he really did feel for her. So very much. In more ways than he was ever likely to voice.

He listens to her breathing for a long while, his eyes wandering over her before finally he lets them close.

“You were watching me” her voice is loud in the room and it makes him jolt a little. It was not a question.

“Perhaps” he murmurs, his usual response to such a statement.

He feels her sigh and shift against him. He knows she would love nothing more than for him to declare complete and utter undying love and he just can’t… yes he worries for her, and his child, yes he is fiercely protective and she tells him it’s love and maybe it is, but he just can’t quite make himself say the word. He’s also well aware that she knows that he loves her no matter what. So in that they stay, each knowing but not speaking.

But their relationship had never been based on words.

“You should sleep, love” she says, her words a rush of warmth against his skin and he shivers at the unexpected sensations it brought.

“I will, in a little while” he murmurs, his hands tightening around her and he yawns widely, letting himself drift a little.

When he’s sure that she is asleep again he opens one eye, watching her again with a small smile until finally sleep comes to claim him.
