Went snowboarding today for the first time this season. Went with Dot, who is a friend from the beach (she's really into kiting). She was really revved up to go today!! I thought about trying to get her to wait til Wed-Fri since the weather will be warming up, and softer snow is better, but, she was charged so I just went with it!! We had a good ( Read more... )

Urk.... east coast ice. One of the reasons I've stopped skiiing. That and anything I cannot do from a chair! ;)

I'm with you, and I don't mean it like an expression. ;)

It probably wasn't technically icy, but, to me it was. It was that cold, slickery granular and really hard, unforgiving type of surface. A few spots were legitimately icy tho. I prefer to go when it is warm and slushy ... or powdery. EVERYONE likes the pow pow. ;)

Did you completely stop skiing??? You're probably pretty surrounded by ski spots where you are. Blue Mtn and all that jazz.

Yeah ... I have not been on the slopes in YEARS. Couple reasons. Kids are the top of the list ... the old legs don't listen too well any more either. Someday, I'll get back into it I suppose. Maybe even teach the kids a thing or two ... haul out all my old competition pins/awards and get 'em motivated to show up their old man.

Dunno how far you are from Roundtop but, they have a really good "teach kids to ski" thing there, and they have specials when its $19 for all the equipment and lessons. The nice thing is that they take them for an initial lesson, then cut them loose to go with you for a while, then if the kids want they can go back in a lesson again to get a refresher or learn the next thing... and do that all day long. Roundtop also has great beginner terrain... there's 3 bunny hills, each just a smidge steeper than the last one. We've taken 5 kids of various ages and they all did really well. Our batch of kids were soooo loooovey dooovey about their instructor girl. They followed her around like puppies.
