Regrets and Painkillers

Jul 11, 2007 11:15

Last night when I got home from work, I felt like getting some exercise. The temperature was in the 90's, but was not really bothering me all day, so I decided to take my chances.

I had planned to jog near the lake, so I pulled up a map of the area. Lake Shore Drive looked like it might be scenic, and surrounds 2/3 of the lake. That was my goal ( Read more... )

Ha, I've never run for an hour and 15 minutes straight in my life.

I've just been riding my stationary bike for 30 or so minutes a day while watching borrowed-from-the-library DVDs of the BBC Office and Curb Your Enthusiasm.

I entirely walked the last 25 minutes. Even so, I can barely stand to exist today - my genetics are prone to lower back pain, and I've done much to exacerbate those muscles this week. I never ever take painkillers, but today I just could not take it.

...meaning, yes. I took painkillers this morning.
That was a confusing sentence.

Hey Buddy, YOU informed ME that the weights there sucked. Don't blame your lazyness, your unlove for the temple that is your body on me. Roll D4 dice for attack bonus.

Yeah. I have been taking care of myself recently, for the first time in years. Jogging once or twice a week, using the pull-up bar in our kitchen doorway many times daily, free weights while watching TV, pushups and ab-work, etc. It's hard to fight my tendencies toward laziness, but I've been holding up so far.

I'm far from being ready for an endurance run. After 20 minutes of running outdoors, I have to set an endpoint for myself, some visible place where I'll stop running and resume walking. Without such, I can't convince myself to keep going.

As for shoes. Heh. Yeah...
DVS Steve Berra 3. Skateboarding shoes. PERFECT for running, right?

I go running on old milltown road a good deal. It's not as long as Rick's standards but I think it will serve your purposes.
