I asked firstofoct what she wanted me to write her for her birthday and this is what she said. So she is entirely responsible for the first fic I’ve written in months being about this. Although the last thing I wrote before this was about Desperate Scousewives, so.

Lovely deleted scenes. I looked back at Identity Theft and realized that I hadn't left a single comment, FOR SHAME. Allow me to belatedly express my appreciation for that fic - the premise was original and I loved what you and goldy_dollar did with it.

Also, this bit:

"Blimey, he was being maudlin. Had he always been like that?"

JOHN, YOU DON'T KNOW THE HALF OF IT. It's nice to see that the foundation of his personality still carried through the memory loss.

THIS IS AN EXCELLENT ADDITION TO AN ALSO EXCELLENT FIC (...if I may say so myself).

He liked his hair, truth be told -- and if the vast array of products he’d found in the cabinet were any indication, that was one of the few similarities between who he’d been and who he was.

Oh, so great to see more bits of this fic!

I liked the little John outtake, especially the hint that was sad that Rose left him (which I don't remember being very apparent in the fic proper). I'm also glad that he realized that the answer to "Would a beard look good?" is NO. It's funny how Rose's personal fears about the Doctor made her get it all wrong- a memory-less Doctor is automatically happy, he's just as unhappy, but just can't remember why...

Nice also to see a snippet from afterwards, where the angst is (mostly) gone. This was just adorable: “You missed me being rude?”

Yeah, in the actual fic we had tried to keep most things through Rose's perspective, which meant leaving John's motivations/etc a bit blurry. But I did always imagine he would be sad about Rose leaving, not in quite the same way the Doctor would be sad if Rose left him (LOL which would be THE END OF THE WORLD), but more in the sense that she's the only person he knows even a little at this point, so even though he'd started to find her hovering annoying, he realizes it's even worse (or at least lonelier) with her gone. I think he'd also start to feel very guilty about everything -- lol like inadvertently stealing her apartment and ruining her life and stuff -- which would keep him from reaching out to her or saying "hey actually I miss you let's try that again".

Of course she would. <3

LOL I imagine he has a window of maybe a week where he could get away with just about anything, ngl.
