I think it's getting really good? But also REALLY DISTURBING. Like, I cannot emphasize that enough. I could easily see it crossing a line for some people/triggering people.
I have been liking Miracle Day! The general complaint I see (aside from 'no Ianto' and 'not Torcwood') is that it's not as fast-paced as COE, but COE was 5 episodes in 5 days and this is 10 episodes in 10 weeks. But I'm liking it, and shit definitely got very very real in this last episode. Legitimately horrific and disturbing, though. Like, potentially triggering. I don't personally have any triggers and I was sitting there cringing in disgust.
It was funny-I just got home to find two LJ notifs in my inbox, one for this post and one for this. So I'm rather amused, and very curious. I've downloaded the first few episodes, and will probably watch them one of these days.
Very very strong death camp/Holocaust imagery. Like, strong enough that I made a point of giving Liz a heads-up about it because I figured she would not want to watch (and now she doesn't).
I think Miracle Day is a bit spotty in places -- I found episode 1 boring for instance because it's mostly Americans going WUT R TORCHWOOD WHO IS GWEN COOPER -- but the plot is picking up and I like it. It's very much RTD drama in the sense that there is some truly disturbing things being show and it's always disturbing in that "dark side of human nature" way, and I get that some people might not want to watch that. On the other hand, I will argue up and down against criticism implying that the show isn't 100% aware of what it is doing. (There is, for instance, a pedophile character and for some reason the internet is convinced this is glorifying pedophiles despite the fact that he is obviously a despicable person, IDEK.)
I've been waiting all day for someone on my f-list to post something about this episode. I am...too lazy to do it myself. I don't think they are glorifying pedophiles, but they are sort of glorifying a pedophile in the fact that they were practically worshipping this man as the second coming or something. But that is the whole point. It is horrifying. It should be horrifying. I kind of felt my stomach turn over when they used the word revelation. I am not sure why, although I have my suspicions they may be connecting it to the Biblical book of Revelations before it is through. I don't know, but since my other suspicion about the gas chambers came true I would not be surprised

Yeah, and this is the point that many seem to be missing. What is happening in the text is not the same as what the text is actually saying, and the text is not saying that Oswald Danes is right. The disconnect between him being despicable as a person and him being revered is precisely what the text is going for and what "GLORIFYING PEDOPHILIA" misses as a criticism
