I. I spent Canada Day with sweetcherrytree! Finally! The world did not implode in a paradox so possibly we have Steven Moffat to thank. Canada Day in Quebec is hilarious to me, because being both Ontarian and from the nation's capital I am used to UNENDING PATRIOTISM and a SEA OF RED AND WHITE but lol that is not how Quebec rolls. There were lots of bouncy ( Read more... )

I love that moment too! I always get mildly horrified when JD says he loves Elliot more than Turk in the Hawaii episode ngl. And I have seen that cover! It's pretty great, though I must say the lyric changes mean it loses some of the ~magic for me.

LOLOL I was in Montreal and did not have any poutine, which is probably a great waste on my part.

I've caught up to episode 7Gurl, you don't know how proud of you I am rn. I basically concur with all your opinions. I had a hard time getting past the first episode because of the whole Daenerys/Drogo situation (especially because on the night it aired, The Borgias basically had the exact same scene and I was like CAN WE NOT WITH THIS PLEASE). This is also the one place where the show is different from the books in a significant/bad way. In the book, Drogo isn't just like "Imma rape you now" there's like an actual sort-of negotiation between them and it's about as consensual as you can get for an arranged marriage between two people who don't know each other and between whom a vast power difference exists. So now, in my head, I just pretend that was the scene they filmed instead of the one that actually exists ( ... )

OH I FORGOT TO MENTION HOW HILARIOUS IT WAS THAT THE CLIFFHANGER~ WAS NED READING THIS BOOK AND BEING LIKE "OH SHIT ALL THE [WHATEVERS] HAD BLACK HAIR AND DRACO IS BLONDE :O :O :O :O :O" lol idk it just seemed so dramatic and like... not how genetics work.

That is a very odd decision to make re: Daenerys/Drogo. Ugh @ someone in the writing room being like YOU KNOW WHAT WILL MAKE THIS BETTER, MORE RAPE.

I like Tyrion a lot. I don't know if I have a distinct favourite right now/yet but he is in the top 3. I think he was one of the people missing from the one episode I found kind of dull.

Putting that in the "differences between book and show that are positive" column.

lol IA. Earlier Tay was like "basically it's a lot of good looking people being morally ambiguous in a medieval world" and this seems like a concise and accurate summary.

The reason the writers decided to go that direction with Dany and Drogo is because they wanted to make Dany's growth even more obvious, I guess. But uuugh. Like I said, in the books even though the wedding night is different (although I have a hard time believing that he would have stopped if she kept saying "no"), the first few weeks of their marriage is pretty much still marital rape (which isn't a concept that exists in their culture, I'm sure, but still...) every night.

Yeah I think they probably made that decision because it's what the reader is thinking when they read that scene anyway, because we have a perspective that none of those characters have. It doesn't matter how nice he is beforehand, it's still rape. But it makes it so it takes much longer (if ever?) for the viewer to get a small hint that he's not 100% brutal at all times and it's maybe not completely bizarre that Dany does become fond of him.

Yay! I am glad that you are enjoying Game of Thrones! Whenever someone asks me to explain it to them, I find it hard to articulate because basically it's about some families struggling for power. But it's so much better than it sounds ( ... )

I like the Starks, they are easily my favourite family but then we haven't seen much of any of the others, except the Lannisters who are almost all douches. lol and the Ta-whatevers with Daenerys and ~THE DRAGON~, whose name I don't even know. I don't have any beef with Cat -- I don't love her, because so far I haven't been exceptionally interested in the stuff she's done, but I also don't have a problem with any of it or see any of it as like, proof she is a terrible person or whatever. I thought it was pretty bamf how she fought off the assassin with help from Attack Wolf.

Yeahhhhhhh I'm not sure about the Daenerys/Drogo storyline tbh, I will reserve judgement until I finish the season I guess and see how it ends (or ends for the time being) but... yeahhhhhh. Ick. I don't really have a ship bt that is okay/my natural state of being.

Joffrey = totally Draco, and fanart!Draco at that. I've adopted the nickname since I first saw the actor's face, I mean seriously.

Re: Daenerys' rape scene-that was kind of odd, in my opinion, because in the book their first time he's all attentive and stuff, enough so that she has what seems to be a pretty great time from the get-go. I think the only purpose of that particular adaptation choice (apart from historical accuracy or whatever) was to have the quasi-lesbian scene later on where the slave teaches Daenerys how to make the Khal let her make the calls in bed.

I LOVE ARYA SO MUCH. She's such a little badass, I feel so bad for her ~free spirit~ trapped in all that heteronormativity ♥

Sansa's annoying, but...*shrugs* she goes through stuff later on, so yeah. Her nurse is called a "septa," fyi.

I love Cersei, though. Not as a person-God, she's horrid-but she's a fabulous villain, I think. I like how her mind works, but of course Tyrion > Cersei as far as Lannisters go.

JD and Turk = so much love.

But in a totally maaaanly ( ... )

I would be very hesitant in comparing Joffrey to Draco. I know a lot of people did it in the beginning but just...don't get attached to that comparison. Not saying anything but yeah, some people are pretty passionate and against people calling Joffrey the new Draco.

VISERYS IS MY BOY. HE'S SO BATSHIT AND I LOVE HIM SO MUCH. lololol oh Viserys. xD Dany is really, really great and her relationship with Drogo progressed differently in the book but omg total OTP.

I love Arya and I'm starting to accept Sansa's maturing arc, tbh. I was bothered by Sansa in the beginning as well but by the end she struck me as a character I could grow to appreciate. Also, Tyrion is flawless. And I don't care about Jon Snow either, lol.

JAMES AND SIRIUS BROMANCE FOREVER. Actually, I love all all your choices so, so much.

Harry Lloyd really should have submitted himself for an Emmy because OMG. I hated Viserys SO MUCH in the books, but Harry Lloyd actually made me feel super sorry for him. He was just kind of pathetic and sad.

Yeah, "pathetic and sad" (and... hilarious) is definitely what I was getting from Viserys. I mean, he was a huge dick, so I didn't feel too badly for him, but he was definitely pathetic and sad.

Me too! I was so disappointed. D: I think the reason Viserys is so detestable in the books is because he's seen from Dany's POV. With the show, we got to see him through Harry Lloyd's eyes. I think what was tragic was that he let his situation turn him into this villain rather than taking the road Dany took. But there is some twisted, twister sympathy to be had there.
