News Flash: Opening other people's mail is WRONG.

Apr 08, 2008 19:28

He knows it's wrong.

Everyone knows that: opening other people's mail is just wrong. There is no justification except "I'm an ass and a control freak and I wanted to know about your business and so you can fuck off."

Which isn't a justification, really - it's more about being a contemptibly odious human being, isn't it?

Yes, quite repugnant. )

It is illegal.

US Code Title 18, Part I (Crimes), Chapter 83 Subsection 1703.

"Whoever, without authority, opens, or destroys any mail or package of newspapers not directed to him, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than one year, or both."

Amen and quite right. Though he's adamant about his right to do as he pleases with my financial letters, the law is above personal opinion. I'm sure his lawyer will advise him of this, so there's no need for me to get involved any more re: this issue.

And wow - was to be a scientist, with the exact quote and site and all. *Admires you*

My lawyer has advised me quite completely of what my options are and yes, it IS illegal. I hope that I do not have to use any of these rather draconian measures, of course, but I am not without options.

I have changed my address - of course it is hard to untangle 16 years of co-mingling, though, so I'll keep rectifying things as they come up I suppose.

(Your mouth to God's ear - I hope I can continue on this way!)

Even easier, have it go directly to the apartment. That way, you know the only other person who will be collecting it is Courtney.

You're an incredible woman for working so hard at the divorce to make it friendly, but protect yourself too.

*hugs*

Agreed. Change of address form takes 1 minute to fill out. Getting your mail from Courtney is faster than wondering where it is otherwise.

Roger that, ma'am; done and done. And if you knew Court at all you would know that she was never going to get the mail anyway so it'll be me, regardless. ;)

Childish is the only word I can politely think of that comes to mind. I don't even open Courtney's mail when she gets things, even if it may be something relevant to me. My name's not on it, its not mine. Beyond the point made of trust, its just plain disrespectful. You know, there is another word that comes to mind that isn't overly caustic: pathetic.

Yeah, I'm disappointed too. And not that I agree with ch4rm's position, but I'm sure it's hard to go from having me as a satellite to dealing with me becoming a whole 'nother autonomous planet. It may not be bringing out his best attributes, eh?

My life is full little surprises: this one's just another thing I wouldn't have guessed I'd have to create a boundary over.
