A mote in my eye, really?

Dear Sir Judgmental; I cannot call you a friend anymore because you have insulted me, and my friend, and I have been quite firm with you, too, which you reacted to rather stronger than I expected. I doubt you will call me for lunch again, and I cannot say I'm disappointed after that horrible show of pride. You know very little of my current ( Read more... )

Wow, Skye. Sorry to hear about the situation. Interesting that it should come up in the midst of the blogstorm about PZ Myers being expelled from "Expelled".

I find that I'm accused quite frequently of not having an open mind when entering discussions with fellow churchgoers, because I'm perceived as having the mindset of not believing anything without evidence. But if I did believe without evidence, wouldn't that make me closed-minded? Confusing!

"Open mind" somtimes means "accept what I believe!", I think :D

That's an issue of faith - believing without any evidence. It's rather a central requirement for religious persons, I'd say. I've found there is no response to give to that - and a good bet you and the person you're talking to would never see eye-to-eye anyway, so just move on to something else.

Sorry that this situation came up. It really bothers me when people get all in a tizzy over things like that.

Can I just say, living with Light9 when you decided to leave the church for something more personal, it really helped me grow. I think it is wonderful that you felt you could find your own way, which ever that way is. But thanks for that growing experience, it has given me a unique perspective in my family when my brother recently decided to find his own path.

You are an inspiration.

Oh my - thank you! It certainly sucked for us all there for a while, and sometimes I wish I could have just kept my eyes closed and my head down - but I'm not really evolving into that sort of girl, am I? ;) I'm glad to have helped in ANY way - it's rough to go any way but 'The Right One', being Mormon.

I hope your bro is all right - I know it has really been tough on me, and I find religion in general to be a peaceful and wonderful thing. Other people around me who've left are NOT so lucky, and are 'fighting' with Mormonism still.

It's good to hear from you, friend. I hope to see you at Court's graduation soon, yes?

He seems to be doing pretty well. I think it has honestly been harder on his 6 year old son, you know change of routine more than anything else.

Court's graduation? Well, you know how she can be with staying in touch. When and where? I'd love to come. It has been FAR too long since I've seen her and you.
