I find that I'm accused quite frequently of not having an open mind when entering discussions with fellow churchgoers, because I'm perceived as having the mindset of not believing anything without evidence. But if I did believe without evidence, wouldn't that make me closed-minded? Confusing!

That's an issue of faith - believing without any evidence. It's rather a central requirement for religious persons, I'd say. I've found there is no response to give to that - and a good bet you and the person you're talking to would never see eye-to-eye anyway, so just move on to something else.

Can I just say, living with Light9 when you decided to leave the church for something more personal, it really helped me grow. I think it is wonderful that you felt you could find your own way, which ever that way is. But thanks for that growing experience, it has given me a unique perspective in my family when my brother recently decided to find his own path.
You are an inspiration.

I hope your bro is all right - I know it has really been tough on me, and I find religion in general to be a peaceful and wonderful thing. Other people around me who've left are NOT so lucky, and are 'fighting' with Mormonism still.
