Photoshop CS2 coloring tutorial. Cause i can't do nothing else.

never_frugal asked for a tutorial for one of my icons from the newest batch, and since i've got nothing fun to do, here we go.

eta: LOTS of curves, and selective color layers too so if youre unfamiliar with these i suggest you look for a solid color tutorial, there must be one somewhere out there.
this isn't my personal favorite but oh well...

now, curves.
theres this curve i ALWAYS, but ALWAYS add, no matter the mode i set it to it always looks good with icons.
RGB - Input: 106 Output: 150
Red - I: 115 O: 137
Green - I: 114 O: 130
Blue - I: 82 O: 142
you will get something like this.
set it to SCREEN.

see, now that lightens a dark cap like NOTHIGN ELSE. lol. so anyways, duplicate teh base once more, drag ot over to the top and set to screen again. we're done with the base. OR ARE WE? lol im kidding you know.

now, add another curve right underneath the top base layer.
Red - I: 96 O: 125
Green - I: 124 O: 135
Blue has two settings - I: 0 O: 23
click once again somewhere in the middle and input 157 and output 131
now, thsi enrichens the cap with a lot more yellow and red, which is never a bad thing, especially if you're working with really cold colored caps, like eternal sunshine caps or um...well pretty much anything that doesnt have warm colors. leave it to normal.

now, adding a third curves layer. now on top of everything. [zomg i get to see vm finale in 4 mins. *squeeeeee*]
ok so basically, now we have an icon that has a LITTLE too much yellow in it. we will try to fix it using selective color, but first, we need to work the blues out.
add a new curves adj. layer and move directly to blue from teh drop down menu.
we have two settings:
1. I: 181 O: 181
2. I: 47 O: 72
now, the difference is barely visible, but trust me this is very important to get nice blue colors.

now, i'll walk you through how i think when adding these. omg. im excited. ok.
so, we have a little too much red in the background now. move directly to neutrals from teh drop down menu. then move the cyan slider to +50.

that fixes our background, now this took the red out of her skin, which makes it look kinda dull. not to mention the yellow needs red to look nice. so we go back to reds from teh drop down menu and move the cyan slider to -20.
and thats hwo we balanced teh red:yellow:blue.

we're done with the selective colro layer. k? anyoen likey? i do. now, see the background all grainy and stuff. well i dont like that! so we need to fix it, naturally. thsi is how i do it:
select the first part of the grainy background, like so.
go to filters/blur/smart blur
radius: 3.0
treshold: 25.0
then apply it to every base layer.

see? grainy -> no grainy! yes!!! do it with the other part of the grainy background.
and voila. grained back - no grained back.

so yeah, thats basically it. from this point, you can do whatever you want with it. hopefully this is helpfull to anyone.
